I-Share Call Slips during Winter Break

With the end of the semester and holiday closures fast approaching, all I-Share libraries need to remember to extend the dates for all of your library’s call slip queues to cover the days your library will be closed.

The more libraries that follow the directions in the Best Practice, the better service all patrons receive.

Please contact the with any questions.

How To: Removing Item Temporary Locations and Item Types from Reserves Items

I can’t change or remove the reserve location of an item record in cataloging? What’s wrong?

(posted 11/14/2016)
If the “Temp. Loc.” and “Temp. Type” fields are grayed out for the item record in Voyager Cataloging, this means the item record is on an active reserve list for Voyager Circulation.

Applying Server Updates (Oct 30)

This Sunday, October 30th between 6AM and 10AM we will patch and reboot operating systems. Most security updates can be applied without rebooting, but the changes we are making require a server restart. We are also going to take this opportunity to patch the Oracle Database software as well.

Most server outages will be brief since a restart takes less than a minute. However, the larger Voyager and Oracle servers could be down for around a half-hour.

UIUC Firewall Maintenance

The UIUC Campus Firewalls will be upgraded which could cause network outages for anyone off-campus connecting to CARLI services.

Network staff have indicated that the outages should be brief during this window.

Choosing which ILL Policy governs Lost/Damaged Fines/Fees

created 8/16/2016

Question: My I-Share library loaned an item through Interlibrary Loan and it was damaged (or lost and not returned).

Answer: The method of lending determines what to do next with lost or damaged items.

First, determine whether the lost or damaged item was loaned as the result of an I-Share request for an individual patron, an I-Share request for an ILLINET library borrowing through I-Share, or as the result of a library-to-library ILL transaction (like through OCLC or other ILL system)?
