Technical Serivces Committee Meeting: June 19, 2014

Conference Call

Members attending:  Elizabeth Cribbs (Northern Illinois University), Jim Edstrom (William Rainey Harper College, co-chair), Lynn Fields (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, co-chair), Deborah Morris (Roosevelt University), Lauren Noel (Columbia College), and Mary Tatro (Augustana College).

Members absent: Kavita Mundle (University of Illinois at Chicago), Tonya Webb (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign), John Whisler (Eastern Illinois University), and Dallas Long (Illinois State University).  

Staff attending: Jen Masciadrelli and Nicole Swanson.

Decisions

  • May 15th minutes approved.

Announcements

  • Deborah Morris announced that ALA and MLA will be offering a webinar about cataloging scores and sheet music in RDA at the end of July. The information is on CARLI’s Events Calendar.
  • Nicole Swanson announced that CARLI will publish new documentation and templates for cataloging in Voyager in the Circulation and Acquisition modules. These templates will be useful for operations such as creating short bib records and will go beyond the already-present book and journal formats.
  • Jen Masciadrelli announced that a webinar has been recorded with instructions for closing out the fiscal year in Voyager and that webinar has been made available to all CARLI libraries. The recorded webinar is a change from the live webinar done in the past and feedback is appreciated.
  • Jen Masciadrelli announced that the committee to determine CARLI’s new ILS has been announced. Nine persons were selected from 23 applications, and the committee will be in place for 3 years.

Old Business

  • Lynn Fields reported that the PDA-DDA forum went very well. A lot of good information was presented, and many participants commented positively on the White Paper.
  • The MARC Edit training was tabled until fall.
  • The webinar on Communicating RDA to non-technical services staff was tabled until fall.

New Business

  • Three new committee members have been appointed to the I-Share Technical Services Committee: Keith Eiten from Wheaton College, Mary Konkel from the College of DuPage, and Ann Heinrichs from the Catholic Theological Union.
  • Nicole and Jen noted that Jim Edstrom and John Whisler will be leaving the committee.
  • Lynn Fields thanked the committee for its hard work thoughout the year.
