2014 CARLI Board of Directors Election Results

The election and appointment process for new members of the CARLI Board of Directors has been completed. Directors elected to 3-year terms beginning July 1, 2014 are Tammy Kuhn-Schnell (Lincoln Land Community College), Richard Darga (Chicago State University) and Felice Maciejewski (Dominican University).

Patrick Dawson (Northern Illinois University), Karen Schmidt (Illinois Wesleyan University) and Frances Whaley (Illinois Valley Community College) have accepted one-year appointed seats on the Board.

Please join us in welcoming these new members of the CARLI Board.   

CARLI Seeking Applications for I-Share Next Task Force

CARLI is seeking applications for membership on the soon-to-be-established I-Share Next Task Force. This group will be charged with coordinating the complex and challenging task of identifying a product to ultimately replace Voyager as the operating platform for the CAR

CARLI Board of Directors Election

Voting is now open for seats on the CARLI Board of Directors. Each of the CARLI constituencies—Community Colleges; Private Colleges and Universities; and Public Universities—will elect one new Board member for a three-year term (July 1, 2014–June 30, 2017).
Voting will remain open until 5 pm on Friday, May 9, 2014.

CARLI is seeking volunteers to serve on 10 advisory committees. Volunteers chosen will serve a three year term, July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2017. Faculty and staff members from all CARLI member libraries, with all levels of experience, are encouraged to apply.

CARLI Seeking Proposals for FY2014 Research Subsidy Program

CARLI is seeking proposals for the FY2014 Research Subsidy Program. Funded by the CARLI Board of Directors, the research awards will support research projects in Governing member libraries. Projects should have the potential to impact libraries and the library profession positively, have the potential to provide a useful addition to the existing literature, and be of interest or use to CARLI libraries. Total funding for FY2014 is $25,000.

CARLI Office Operating with Limited Staffing on January 6

Due to the severe weather conditions expected to continue throughout the day, the CARLI Office will be operating with limited staffing on Monday, January 6.

Recordings of the 2013 CARLI Annual Meeting Now Available

Over 160 people attended the CARLI Annual Meeting in Champaign on Friday, November 1. Presentations by CARLI member librarians focused on a wide array of research projects that have been undertaken by a diverse array of CARLI libraries.

Register for the 2013 CARLI Annual Meeting

Register to attend the CARLI Annual Meeting on Friday, November 1, 10:30 am–­3:00 pm, at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in Champaign. The meeting will feature presentations of research by and/or about CARLI Libraries. Each session will last approximately 35 minutes (including Q&A)

Seeking Academic Libraries for the ILA Executive Board

The Nominating Committee of the Illinois Library Association is seeking academic librarians interested in serving on the ILA Executive Board. Two candidates will appear on the spring ballot for this academic post, for a three-year term beginning in 2014.

Are you effectively assessing your library instruction? Do the students in your classroom understand the concepts you are teaching? Does your instruction have an impact on student learning? These are all important questions that every instruction librarian should be asking. Many of us struggle with determining what to assess and the best way to do it. Finding adequate time to plan assessment activities in the midst of everything else we do can sometimes be overwhelming.
