CARLI Seeking Proposals for FY2014 Research Subsidy Program

CARLI is seeking proposals for the FY2014 Research Subsidy Program. Funded by the CARLI Board of Directors, the research awards will support research projects in Governing member libraries. Projects should have the potential to impact libraries and the library profession positively, have the potential to provide a useful addition to the existing literature, and be of interest or use to CARLI libraries. Total funding for FY2014 is $25,000.

Recordings of the 2013 CARLI Annual Meeting Now Available

Over 160 people attended the CARLI Annual Meeting in Champaign on Friday, November 1. Presentations by CARLI member librarians focused on a wide array of research projects that have been undertaken by a diverse array of CARLI libraries.

Register to attend the CARLI Annual Meeting on Friday, November 1, 10:30 am–­3:00 pm, at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in Champaign. The meeting will feature presentations of research by and/or about CARLI Libraries. Each session will last approximately 35 minutes (including Q&A)

Seeking Academic Libraries for the ILA Executive Board

The Nominating Committee of the Illinois Library Association is seeking academic librarians interested in serving on the ILA Executive Board. Two candidates will appear on the spring ballot for this academic post, for a three-year term beginning in 2014.

CARLI Board of Directors Election Results

The election and appointment process for new members of the CARLI Board of Directors has been completed. New Board members elected to 3-year terms beginning July 1, 2013 are Brian Beecher (Elgin Community College), Mary Case (University of Illinois at Chicago), and Scott Walter (DePaul University). Board members elected to one-year terms are Njambi Kamoche (William Rainey Harper College), and Patrick Dawson (Northern Illinois University).

Internet Archive Surpasses 3.5 Million Digital Texts Online

The Internet Archive now has over 3.5 million books online including over 6,700 items digitized for the Archive through the CARLI Book Digitization Initiative. More than 40 CARLI member institutions have contributed historical out-of-copyright works, government documents, materials in which their institutions own the copyright, or have partnered with local organizations to digitize materials. All texts are available for free to anyone with an Internet connection.

HathiTrust & VuFind Webinar Recording Available

CARLI recently introduced access to public domain, electronic full-text materials in the HathiTrust collection via the I-Share union catalog. Member libraries are now considering whether to incorporate the same HathiTrust records into default searches of their local catalogs as well.  So the question is: to Hathi or not to Hathi?
