How to Use Wiley Online Library

Wiley Online Books

This information is not complete; more information to come.

CARLI does not have a current contract with EBSCO for consortial ebooks. In 2000, the Illinois Digital Academic Library (IDAL), one of CARLI's three founding organizations, purchased perpetual access to ebooks from NetLibrary (now EBSCOHost ebooks).

All CARLI Governing Members have access to:

1,970 Ebooks in the eBook Collection on EBSCOHost. [title list to come]

Terms of Use

CARLI owns perpetual access to 1 user per title. If a user is looking at the fulltext of a title online, then no one else may view the fulltext. As soon as a user is no longer viewing the fulltext, the title is available for another to use.

There are no checkouts.

Terms of use vary by title. Most titles allow a portion of the title to be downloaded, printed, saved, or copied. Some titles allow the full title to be downloaded.

CARLI does not have a current contract with ProQuest. All information below is from the project that begin in 2014 and ended June 30, 2018.

All CARLI Governing Members have access to:

3,992 Ebooks on the ProQuest Ebook Central Platform.

From May – December 2014, CARLI had the EBL eBook PDA Pilot Project. At the end of the project, CARLI owned 3,858 ebooks and over the next four years, members had the opportunity to purchase additional titles with consortial access. Altogether CARLI owns 3,992 unique titles. Due to the nature of the pilot, if use demanded, then multiple copies of a title were purchased. Overall CARLI owns 4,035 ebooks. Here is the list of the 4,035 ebooks.

EBL was purchased by ProQuest in 2014. In June 2017, ProQuest merged its two ebook platforms EBL & ebrary into the ProQuest Ebook Central platform. With the transition from the EBL platform to the ProQuest Ebook Central platform, CARLI members’ institutional purchased (local) content and CARLI consortial titles are available from one site.

Due to the digital rights management (DRM), these consortial ebooks should not be used for course materials or library course reserves as our consortial access is not sufficient to support this type of use.

Terms of Use

Users may view titles for five minutes in a 24-hour period before a prompt appears to establish a loan. A loan is also established if a user downloads a title. All loans are 7-days.

Terms of use vary by title. Most titles allow a portion of the title to be printed or copied.

Access for consortial titles is either:

  • Set number 7-day loans per year which refresh on the anniversary of the titles original purchase date.
  • 3 Users (concurrent access)

The consortially owned ebooks on the ProQuest Ebook Central platform SHOULD NOT be used for course materials or library course reserves as our consortial access is not sufficient to support this type of use.

Authentication

All CARLI members established authentication to EBL (predecessor to ProQuest Ebook Central) in 2014 with either EZProxy or Patron Login. During the transition from EBL to ProQuest Ebook Central in 2017, CARLI members that used EZProxy updated as necessary their EZProxy configuration stanzas.

Authentication is via a Where Are You From (WAYF) page that is maintained by ProQuest. Members should send an email to ProQuest Ebook Support (email: ) to update their authentication information if there are any changes that include your institutional IP addresses, authentication URL (including changing from "http" to "https", or authentication system changes (moving from one authentication system to another).
