Alma/Primo VE Project Update

The CARLI staff extend our thanks to everyone who has helped their library meet our July 23rd Alma project deadlines! For the very few I-Share libraries that still have some outstanding items that were due July 23, we will be reaching out to your Alma Primo VE contact person over the next several days to see what help you might need to finish these tasks. Your completed Alma migration forms will be used by Ex Libris to generate the next worksheet, the Alma Configuration Form, so your deadline compliance helps us keep the whole project on schedule!

Many of you have been inquiring about our next deadline: September 4 Completed Configuration Form Due. As mentioned above, the completed Migration Form is one of the dependencies that needs to be provided to Ex Libris for them to be able to create the Configuration Forms. We hope to have a better idea of when we will be able to receive and share the Configuration Forms with you by the end of next week and that will allow us to firm up its return deadline. It is likely that you will have a bit longer than September 4 to complete these forms, but please watch for our announcement soon.

Once the Configuration Forms are completed, all of the worksheet deliverables required by Ex Libris and CARLI will be done for the test round! We still expect your full test environments to be delivered by Ex Libris in mid-October 2019.

You may know we have started having an open webinar/call each Thursday at 2 p.m. that we are calling "Office Hours": Each of the Office Hours sessions includes some presentation time by Ex Libris and CARLI staff, and time for your questions. Our next open Office Hours conference call, on August 1, will include a brief presentation about how you can prepare for testing your data and configuration in the Test Load environment. We will be covering what you can and should be doing between now and mid-October to collect data examples for your review and testing.

Finally, for now, we are seeking your help in identifying training rooms around the state that we could use for in-person Alma and Primo VE training later this fall and into spring 2020. CARLI will take care of all of the arrangements and any costs, we are simply asking you to help us find suitable spaces at a variety of geographically dispersed locations. Please share any ideas for training rooms in this simple survey (and thanks in advance for your help.)

Thanks again to all of you who have put your effort into the project so far! Remember to refer to the CARLI Alma Primo VE website for updates.

Project Outcome Toolkit Webinar Recording Available

The recording of the Project Outcome webinar, presented by Sara Goek, ACRL Program Manager, is now available.

The webinar provides an overview of the new Project Outcome for Academic Libraries surveys and resources. Project Outcome is a free toolkit that helps libraries measure four key learning outcomes – knowledge, confidence, application, and awareness – across seven library program and service areas. The survey topics cover:

  • Instruction
  • Events/Programs
  • Research
  • Teaching Support
  • Digital & Special Collections
  • Space
  • Library Technology

The toolkit provides academic libraries of any size the means to easily measure outcomes and use that data as the basis for improvements and advocacy.

ACRL Workshop: Standards for Libraries in Higher Education

The University of Illinois at Chicago, Northwestern University, and CARLI are pleased to host the Association of College and Research Libraries: Standards for Libraries in Higher Education Workshop at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 29, 2019.

The learning outcomes for the program are:

  • Establish the library and institutional contexts to effectively engage in planning, self-study, accreditation, or program review processes.
  • Use the ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education and other foundational documents as a framework to develop benchmarks, evaluate quality and performance, and demonstrate value to the institutional mission.
  • Evaluate various metrics and assessment tools to select the best approach for a given situation.
  • Examine the role of leadership in building a culture of assessment to engage all librarians and staff members in effective decision-making.

This workshop is intended for all librarians, library staff, and library administrators who need to demonstrate the value of their library by documenting their contributions to overall institutional effectiveness and/or to identify areas for quality improvement. Attendees are not expected to have previous experience applying the Standards. Though the primary audience is librarians, library staff, library administrators and other campus professionals in areas of assessment, institutional planning and improvement, and academic technology may be interested as well.

There is a $45 registration fee. A special room rate is available for lodging at Crown Plaza, West Loop location, on October 28, the day prior to the program.

For complete program, lodging, and registration information, visit the event page

CARLI is committed to bringing the high-quality ACRL RoadShow Traveling Workshops to member library staff. The "Standards for Libraries in Higher Education" RoadShow is the third program co-sponsored by member libraries and CARLI since 2018, including "Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement" and "Engaging with the ACRL Framework".
