Cataloging Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I cataloged some records in Alma a few minutes ago, but when I click the View in Discovery option, I get an error, "Record cannot be displayed." I did not suppress the records. What is happening?

The Primo VE error message, "Record cannot be displayed," which may appear for newly cataloged records.

Answer: Records that are new to your institution may require a few minutes after cataloging to become fully indexed and visible. For Primo VE, additions of and updates to bibliographic records will typically occur every 15 minutes on the quarter hour. Updates to inventory (i.e., holdings, items, portfolios) should be more immediate. Bibliographic records in the institution zone with no inventory may take longer than 15 minutes to appear.

If records do not appear after 15 minutes, recheck that the bibliographic record has inventory in a location that is not automatically suppressed. Also recheck that neither the bibliographic record nor the holding record is suppressed. Contact CARLI Support if the record does not display within a day; CARLI staff will explore other possible causes.
