Open Content Coordinator - College of DuPage

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Open Content Coordinator coordinates and manages library open access (OA) and open educational resources (OER) initiatives. Under the direction of the Digital Content and Open Access Librarian, the Coordinator oversees lifecycle of openly licensed digital content created by College faculty and staff, including the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of open content. This role directs and evaluates faculty engagement with OER and ensures effective workflows, accessibility compliance, storage management and discoverability of open materials, while aligning initiatives with institutional priorities and available resources.
- Manages day-to-day operations of OA and OER initiatives, including planning, implementation and ongoing maintenance, establishing priorities, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
- Serves as project lead and primary point of contact for assigned publishing projects, managing workflows and communications faculty authors.
- Manages the storage and discoverability of open educational resources created by College employees on a variety of platforms.
- Reviews and edits open educational resources created by College employees to check for content, readability, style, and accessibility. Approves materials for publication in alignment with institutional and legal standards.
- Maintains and develops repositories of openly licensed content created by College employees such as textbooks and ancillary materials, course modules, and datasets, ensuring long-term sustainability and access.
- Assists faculty and staff in using technical tools to create openly licensed educational content, providing advanced guidance on best practices, licensing, and publishing standards.
- Contributes to marketing and communications efforts supporting the OER program, including evaluating impact and effectiveness of outreach strategies.
- Develops, maintains, and analyzes records and creates reports as needed, including metrics on usage, cost savings, and program effectiveness.
- Manages financial aspects of OER initiatives, including tracking expenditures, supporting budget planning, and ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
- May supervise student employees, assign work, monitor performance and provide training.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
- Library coursework, training in publishing, instructional technology or related areas preferred.
- Knowledge of copyright and Creative Commons licensing preferred.
- Familiarity with digital accessibility standards and best practices in publishing preferred.
- Experience
- Two (2) years of professional experience in an educational, library, publishing, or content development environment required.
- Experience providing customer service or user support required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
- Experience using technology to support teaching, learning, online platforms, digital content creation, and content management systems preferred.
- Library experience, familiarity with open education resources (OER), or experience searching and using library databases and open repositories preferred.
Working Conditions
- Computers using Microsoft Office software, web publishing platforms and repositories (Springshare, Pressbooks, Digital Commons, Google Drive), library management system (Alma/Primo) and Blackboard learning management system.
- Spend extended periods of time at a computer keyboard and monitor.
- This position requires a background check and drug screen.
Starting pay begins at $26.25/hr. based on experience.
Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience. About the Library
College of DuPage Library is a team of over 70 faculty, staff and student employees serving the college community over 80 hours per week. The Library is a busy hub of activity near the heart of campus, utilized heavily by students, employees and district residents. In addition to a comprehensive instruction program, reference and consultation services, robust collections, and extensive programming, the Library is the driving force behind COD's OER/Textbook Affordability Initiative (that has saved students over $11M) and plays a critical role in addressing the technology and digital literacy needs of the college community through lending and support.
