Susan Singleton, CARLI Executive Director and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, University of Illinois, will retire in July 2016. Singleton, who has held the position since January 2006, was the first Executive Director hired after CARLI was created from the merger of the Illinois Cooperative Collection Management Program (ICCMP), the Illinois Digital Academic Library (IDAL), and the Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization (ILCSO).

Illinois State Library has been selected as a service hub for the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). The Illinois State Library will share Service Hub responsibilities with the Chicago Public Library, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

Fourteen years ago terrorists crashed planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and changed all of our lives. We don't greet friends at the airport gate, we don't toss toenail clippers into our carry-ons. Those of us who were over 21 at the time feel different kinds of anxiety when the topic of GTMO comes up, depending on our politics. We witnessed the death of irony and its rebirth into something that's the faintest bit softer. Today's post showcases two student editorials reporting on the September 11 attacks. Both were published on September 14, 2001.
