The Thomas Tredway Library at Augustana College invites applications for a motivated, innovative, and organized professional to lead our circulation department. The Head of Circulation manages the library's foundational services and plays a key role in fostering the engagement and development of our student employees. Working within a dynamic and creative environment, and in close collaboration with colleagues, the Head of Circulation ensures the library's public-facing operations are efficient, welcoming, and service-oriented. This role also serves as a mentor and educator, supporting the learning and professional growth of more than 20 student employees each semester.
Job Duties:
- Provide strategic leadership for circulation services and student employee engagement.
- Hire, train, supervise, and mentor student employees in the circulation department.
- Develop training, programming, and/or other opportunities to foster student employees' workplace engagement and professional development.
- Organize and oversee core library circulation services, including:
- Circulation of materials, consortia borrowing and lending, course reserves, study room checkouts, library opening and closing, and space access and security.
- Contribute to the administration of the integrated library system for circulation applications.
- Ensure the library's service areas are organized, functional, and welcoming.
- Liaise with Information Technology Services (ITS) to maintain the library's collection of circulating technology.
- Coordinate with colleagues and vendors to manage the library's computer labs and printing services.
- Respond to patrons' comments, questions, and complaints about library resources and services, referring complex issues to the library director as appropriate.
- Advise on copyright compliance and respond to copyright-related questions.
- Supervise and mentor one full-time paraprofessional staff member.
- Develop, document, and maintain patron-centered policies and procedures.
- Provide backup circulation desk coverage when needed.
- Maintain and update the library's website.
- Collaborate on library marketing and outreach.
- Serve on the library's management team, contributing to library leadership and strategic direction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to innovate in the design and provision of library services.
- Experience supervising or mentoring staff or students.
- Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration across departments.
- Strong technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to learn and work with the integrated library system (ILS) and other library technologies.
- Knowledge of an ILS, especially Ex Libris Alma, is preferred.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills for working with a diverse campus and community audience.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a busy environment.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.

Pay & Benefits:
