Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Nora Gabor says DePaul is posting Digital Preservation position. She is unsure of when it will be posted.
    • Tonia mentioned that Northwestern has hired a conversation tech – first time since the pandemic began that the conversation lab is fully-staffed.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • Committee annual report is submitted in May, so aim for having it presented to the committee during the May committee meeting. Previous reports are available on Box and the CARLI website.
    • Nicole highlighted some upcoming Professional Development Alliance Programs:
    • Elizabeth let the group know about upcoming retirements: Kris Hammerstrand  and Gordon Fellows. Promotions within CARLI staff: Jen Masciadrelli is now Assistant Director for User Services, Jessica Gibson Assistant Director of System Services. Jenny Taylor and Margaret Chambers were also promoted.
    • Currently working with system HR on CARLI job postings: User Services position, E-Resources, and System Services
    • April 21: Public Services CommitteeControlled Digital Lending program’s registration is now open (within two hours there are now 57 registrants). Program will *not* be recorded.
    • April 6: Commercial Products Committee is hosting a program on accessibility.

Discussion

  • Quick Tips for Disasters & Emergencies: Article Assignments
    • Need another topic for the article assignment. Tonia shared ideas gathered for topic on Box.
      • Jade volunteered for May new article on disaster management.
        • Teri and Jade came up with the idea of interviewing someone that has been through a disaster.
        • Ellen said their head of collections may be interested as their facility had water issues despite renovation.
      • Melina will write the project wrap up.
      • Elizabeth offered topic of simple prevention (e.g. plastic bags or the like at circulation desks)
        • Pattie commented that this is probably ubiquitous practice, but Teri mentioned that reminders are always a good idea.
        • Bookmarks or other simple ideas for promoting preservation
    • Idea for next year: a panel on people who have been through library disasters and/or those with experience on library insurance.

    • Tonia reminded the group to review their Preservation Web Resources links.
      • Guidelines: broken links that can be replaced with a new link by simply emailing Elizabeth and Nicole; adding or replacing links with something new is for committee discussion.
