Friday, June 7, 2019 - 9:30am to 3:30pm

The CARLI Preservation Committee is pleased to sponsor two Conservation Lab Open Houses in Springfield on June 7, 2019, from 9:30am to 3:30pm at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) and the Illinois State Military Museum.

This past year, the CARLI Preservation Committee has focused on the preservation of non-book materials within library collections. They are creating a website “Beyond the Book: Preserving you Non-Book Collections” that includes information on the preservation of textiles, maps and blueprints, board games and materials with multiple parts, paintings, and photographs and glass plate images with more topics coming as the group continues to share their expertise throughout the remainder of this fiscal year.

As an extension of this topic, the committee invites participants to learn how two institutions preserve some of their non-book materials including storing their 3D artifacts and how staff at the Military Museum conserve battle flags.

The event will begin at the ALPLM Conservation Lab. Attendees will move their vehicles to the Illinois State Military Museum after lunch.

A box lunch (including a six-inch sub, chips, water, and a cookie) will be provided for attendees by CARLI.
