Yearbook Digitization Project - Completed

In 2013, the CARLI Board of Directors approved funding for the digitization of the student yearbooks OR the student newspaper for all CARLI Governing members. The following information is for those institutions that have chosen to have yearbooks digitized. Institutions may choose to digitize yearbooks OR newspapers, but not both. The newspaper portion of the project is on hold pending the FY16 budget.

Register by October 22 for the 2014 CARLI Annual Meeting

Register now to attend the CARLI Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 30, 10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m, at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign. The meeting will feature research findings from CARLI libraries, as well as reports of annual projects from CARLI committees.

Changes to CARLI Membership Criteria and Benefits

This fall, as part of CARLI's ongoing efforts to gather information about member libraries, the CARLI Board and staff visited twelve CARLI Governing and Affiliate member libraries. Informed by these visits and previous Board discussions, the Board of Directors approved several changes to CARLI membership criteria and benefits at their December meeting. Beginning July 1, 2014, CARLI Governing member institutions must be Not-for-Profit, and the institution must be incorporated in Illinois.

Unusual Damage to Books

Most damage to library materials is a result of normal use and abuse including torn pages, broken spines and annotations applied by thoughtless patrons. Occasionally, however, library conservators and preservation specialists encounter surprising, amusing, or outrageous kinds of damage. Below are just a few examples of usual damages encountered recently by preservation staff at CARLI member libraries.

The Instruction Unconference returns!

On Friday, January 25, 2013 the Instruction Team will once again sponsor an Unconference at Illinois Wesleyan University.  Unconferences are founded on the concept that everyone attending a conference has valuable ideas and experiences to share.  Participants choose what topics they are most interested in and break out into discussion groups.  The Instruction Team is proposing potential topics that focus on the collaboration between faculty and librarians, examining the role of the one-shot instruction session, the traditional research paper, and sequencing instruction w
