CARLI Digitized Book of the Month – March 2015

From: Prairie State College

The Spectrum (1961)

Are you ready for March Madness? While college basketball fans eagerly await Selection Sunday, the young men on the 1961 Bloom Community College basketball team look ready to take on any challengers. Unfortunately, according to the text in the yearbook, the Bloom Viking’s 1961 season was rather undistinguished. They only won 7 out of 22 games, ending their season by losing to Wright College in the regional tournament.

The photos of the team members are spread over two pages in this yearbook, so be sure to click through to view the rest of the team. Plus, there are additional basketball photos on preceding pages.

Bloom Township Junior College was founded in 1957 and later became Prairie State College. Basketball continues to play a part in the student life at Prairie State, and both men’s and women’s teams have had successful seasons in recent years. Go Pioneers!
