CARLI Digitized Book of the Month – January 2014

School Days in the Fifties; a true story with some untrue names of persons and places. (1906)

School Days in the Fifties is an account of the author's childhood in school, as well as his thoughts on the effectiveness of his teachers' methods and behaviors. Considering the book was published in 1906, and the events taking place within occurred in the 1850s, the author's comments are surprisingly accurate to the needs of students and teachers today. Amusing as well as instructive, this book is an excellent read.
