History of Chicago. From the earliest period to the present time (1884)

A review of this book on Archive.org states, "Practically unknown, this enormous work represents the history of Chicago from the viewpoint of a nineteenth-century author who spared nothing in order to collect as much information as he could. Anyone who is interested in the history of the city will find Andreas's compilation fascinating to no end." This is Volume 1 of 3, ending in the year 1857.  Years 1857 through the fire of 1871 can be found here, in Volume 2. Volume 3 (1871-1885) has been digitized by Google and is available here.

This volume was contributed by the Kankakee Community College Learning Resource Center. You can find this volume and others from CARLI participant libraries in the Internet Archive.
