Building Diversity Graduate Assistant 25% Time - CARLI

The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) is seeking two Graduate Assistants for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

CARLI, a unit of the University of Illinois System Office, reporting to the Executive Vice President and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Position Summary

Graduate assistants will perform professional-level duties at participating CARLI member libraries to gain broad experience across library functions, including circulation, reference, collection development, researching and curating collections, creating research guides, and other general tasks.

Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of graduate assistants will vary by location. Graduate assistants will work closely with participating library staff to complete projects integral to the library, while gaining skills that enhance their post-graduation employment success, and their knowledge of the range of opportunities available in academic libraries.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

Admission to or enrollment in the MS/LIS degree program in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Information Sciences and the Leep Online Program; at least 10 credit hours enrollment.

Compensation and Hours

Monthly compensation: $1,226.67
Hours per week: 10 hours with work hours as arranged with the graduate assistant and host library. Host libraries will work with the graduate assistant in scheduling time at each library between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, during the semester. Hybrid or remote arrangements (if available) will be made by the host library in collaboration with the graduate assistant.

Appointment Duration

August 26–December 19, 2024, for the Fall 2024 Semester;
January 21–May 15, 2025, for the Spring 2025 Semester.

Locations

This is an on-site position. Selected graduate assistants will be matched with two CARLI Member libraries located closest to their home. Locations for the fall and spring semesters will be included in final employment offers.
