From John Jochman Album (Benedictine University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

The John Jochman Album is a delightful collection of candid and formal photos of Benedictine monks and students from St. Procopius Academy and St. Procopius College taken during the early part of the 20th century.

According to the collection’s introduction, John Jochman was a student at St. Procopius from 1917-1923. This collection of photos include pictures Jochman took of his friends and classmates at school, plus some formal school portraits of students and the Benedictine monks who taught at the schools.

There are so many great pictures in this collection, but this is a typical casual group portrait from the album. My response when I saw this photo was something like, “Ah, look at these little troublemakers.” Technology and clothing styles may have changed, but little boys haven’t changed very much from a century ago. The photos in this collection are proof of that.

Whether they are camping, playing baseball, or just goofing off, the photos of the young men in the John Jochman Album provide a wonderful glimpse of life on campus at St. Procopius nearly a hundred years ago.
