Special Collections/Archives Assistant - Bradley University

Under the supervision of the Head of Special Collections, the Special Collections/Archives Assistant provides general reference/research service for the Bradley community and for researchers and visitors from the general public. This position supports the Center’s activities, initiatives, and mission.

This position:

  • Helps with routine office and reading room operations for Special Collections and University Archives including supervising the reading room, answering phone and email messages, monitoring and reordering archival preservation and other supplies, retrieval and refiling of collection materials, maintaining department records and network files, maintaining monthly statistics, and contributing to monthly and annual reports.
  • Performs basic procedures in the preservation and organization of collections (requires minimal training)
  • Supports SCC instruction, outreach and promotional efforts by assisting others in preparing and retrieving materials for events, class visits, and exhibits.
  • Specific assignments and responsibilities may vary and other relevant duties may be assigned
  • The Virginius H. Chase Special Collections and University Archives is a dynamic and engaged unit on campus. We reserve the right to modify requirements and adjust schedules as needed in the best interests of the Library and University.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in word processing and common computer applications such as Google Suite tools
  • Flexibility to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong commitment to collegial relationships; excellent communication skills; desire to learn, grow and adapt
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail; good organizational skills; aptitude for learning new software
  • Employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, reach, bend and potentially lift heavy archive boxes or other items weighing at most 40 pounds (assistance can be provided)
  • Commitment to the university and library mission and vision especially in areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Appointment: Half-Time: 20 hours per week (12-month position)

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
