Pre-Migration Database Maintenance

Based on recommendations from Alma documentation, ELUNA presentations, and other Alma customers the Technical Services Committee and CARLI Staff have put together this list of prioritized database maintenance tasks. These tasks should be completed prior to the I-Share Alma migration in 2020. This list will evolve and be updated as we learn more about Alma. Please contact CARLI support with any questions or concerns.

Please note that the focus on these priorities for Alma migration does not eliminate the need to continue Voyager database maintenance as outlined on the  Suggested Priorities for Bibliographic, Holding, and Item Record Maintenance Pages.

Projects of Critical importance address data issues that are likely to result in post-migration record cleanup. Many of these issues may also affect the creation of the Alma Network Zone. We hope that all libraries, even those with limited staff time to address the broader list of Suggested Priorities, will be able to accomplish the critical priorities.

High Importance projects include data quality issues within bibliographic, holding, and item records, that libraries should identify and ideally address before beginning migration planning. Some priorities involve conditions that may be more easily identified and corrected while in Voyager.

Projects listed As Time Permits involve situations where data may not be optimal and may be confusing for staff and patrons now, as well as in Alma. Library staff should identify the records with these conditions in advance of migration, so that if time does not permit clean-up, staff will know these were pre-existing problems.

Update for Test Migration Cycle: I-Share libraries will be entering the test migration cycle during June 2019 and continuing through October 2019. Library staff should prioritize migration activities above any of the maintenance projects listed below that are not "Critical." Projects with a "*" after their priority have been downgraded from another level. CARLI and the Technical Services Committee will re-evaluate priorities after the Vanguard and Test loads.

CARLI will begin extracting data for the test migration in September 2019.
