This panel discussion will explore how academic libraries can support student well-being through intentional de-stress programming. Panelists will highlight practical programs such as Welcome Week initiatives, scavenger hunts, crafting events, low-stakes social events, Finals Week activities, and more. Attendees will leave with adaptable ideas for implementing effective, inclusive de-stress programs in their own libraries and learn more about contributing to a healthier campus environment.
Panelists:
Yi Han is the Student Engagement Librarian at the College of DuPage Library. Her work centers on instruction, reference, outreach, and designing programs and services that enhance student engagement and build meaningful connections with the library.
Melissa Merlos is the Coordinator of Electronic Resources and Technology at Harper College Library. Melissa co-led the Finals Week Programming Committee from its inception and worked to adapt the program as it grew. She is passionate about helping students by teaching research skills and connecting them with materials and resources to allow them to thrive in their education.
Michelle Nielsen Ott is the Science and Health Science Librarian and Head of Reference Services at Cullom-Davis Library at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She is a member of the library’s Engagement Committee and enjoys planning new and recurring programs for students and employees.
Kylie Riordan is the Information Literacy & Instruction Librarian at Illinois Tech. She is a member of the library’s Promotion, Outreach, Engagement and Marketing (POEM) Committee, and works frequently with other campus groups to promote library resources and support student well being and engagement.
Ailyn Trujillo is the Circulation Supervisor at the Harper College Library. A Harper College and Elmhurst University alum, she is currently completing her Master of Science in Library and Information Science with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She has experience working in different roles in public and academic library settings.
