PDA Event: (Social) Media Literacy: Teaching Everyday Information Literacy Skills for College Students
Tuesday, October 6, 2026 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm
As college students increasingly consume news and find information through social media platforms, it is more crucial than ever that libraries involved in teaching information literacy include this medium in their offerings. When social media is used as a source in both personal and academic searches for information, critical evaluation of its production, authority, and consumption becomes essential.
This presentation highlights an online interactive tutorial one academic library developed to target social media literacy for freshman-level information literacy instruction, as well as featuring along the way some tips and tactics for creating digital learning objects such as the one demonstrated.
