PDA Event: Business Research for Everyone: Using Business Databases with Public Library Patrons

Tuesday, March 3, 2026 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Business questions come from everywhere - job seekers exploring self-employment or job listings, entrepreneurs launching a first idea, students working on class projects, and community members researching local industries or consumer trends. In this co-hosted webinar with Ciera Williams, chair of the NCLA BLINC (Business Librarianship in NC) Section and Business Services Manager at Durham County Library, participants will explore how public libraries can use business databases to support patrons with a wide range of goals, experience levels, and information literacy skills.

The session will focus on translating business data into approachable, patron-centered support.

Attendees will learn how to identify the right database for common public library business questions, frame database results in accessible language, and guide patrons through data-driven decision-making - without assuming prior business knowledge. Practical examples and patron scenarios will highlight inclusive reference and instructional strategies that lower barriers to using business information.

Presenters:

Ciera Williams, Business Services Manager at Durham County Library

Devon Waugh, Instruction Librarian for NC LIVE
