PDA Event: Bridging the Gap and Developing Community: Promoting Intentional Outreach Practices Across the Library and Beyond

Tuesday, November 28, 2023 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm

Venturing into any new library space can be exciting, especially when you’re committed to establishing new relationships and developing new programs and initiatives to support student growth and academic success. However, what should you do when you’re unsure of how to build your foundation? In what ways could not developing those relationships impact your professional endeavors during your tenure at your institution? Join this session for an engaging way to learn how newfound relationships through community building can increase your visibility on campus, open up prospects to grow professionally, and support increased engagement in reference services, instruction opportunities, and outreach initiatives at your institution.

Learning objectives:

  • To discover meaningful ways to connect with a new community to develop programming to increase each department’s visibility and engagement.
  • To illustrate the value of those relationships and how they contribute to students’ academic success.
  • To cultivate an engaging space for librarians, paraprofessionals, and advocates to discuss potentially new and ongoing projects to empower others to engage with their new community.
