PDA Event: How to Talk So Your Boss Will Listen: The Fine Art of Conversing with Your Supervisor

Are your conversations with your boss not getting the results you desire? A panel of library directors and managers will discuss best practices for effective and rewarding communication with your supervisor and offer examples of Q&A do's and don’ts in this interactive program.

Moderator Janet Flewelling is the Head of Emerging & Creative Technologies at the Wallingford Public Library. She is also the current co-chair of the Connecticut Library Association's Career Development Committee.

Barbara Cangiano has served as the Head of Circulation at Wallingford Public since January 2015. She was previously employed at The James Blackstone Memorial Library and Columbia University Libraries. Cangiano is fiercely committed to inspiring, encouraging, empowering, and advocating for library staff.

Sarah Kline Morgan joined the East Hartford Public Library staff as library director in 2017. Prior to that, she worked with children and teens in a range of library settings, from rural to urban. As the beneficiary of terrific mentoring herself, Sarah hopes to inspire and support the next generation of library leaders.

Sunnie Scarpa has served as Director of the E.C. Scranton Memorial Library since 2019. She began her career as a Teen Librarian at the New Haven Free Public Library before serving as Head of Children's Services at the Wallingford Public Library for six years. Scarpa is passionate about the library field and loves to read/listen/talk and coach people on career advancement, management, and leadership topics.
