Tasks Assigned

  • Minutes taken by Robin Harris.
  • Robin will contact Lauren to obtain the link to the ILOE minutes.
  • Mackenzie will contact Lauren regarding the status of the CARLI OER Champions Call for Nominations and will look into the award process.
  • Zach will draft a statement of support for CARLI continuing education/certificate program funding for Elizabeth to present to CARLI administration.
  • Elizabeth, Nicole, and Michele will create a new Box folder for next year, populated with the most recent versions of all workshop materials and the new CARLI slide template.
  • Kelly will update the OER Faculty Workshop for accessibility and apply the new CARLI slide template. Robin will review and update content. 
  • Shelly will update the OER Course: Understanding and Promoting OER to the new CARLI slide template (accessibility review to follow as capacity allows).
  • Elizabeth will look into LibreFest waiver code for CARLI consortium members.

Decisions

  • May 14, 2026, minutes were approved with minor tracked-change edits.
  • Zach and Brandon agreed to serve as Co-Chairs of the OER Committee for the next academic year.
  • The committee voted to continue CARLI support for the three established certificate programs: OEN Certificate in OER Librarianship, Creative Commons Certificate, and the Open Pedagogy Certificate.
  • The CARLI OER Champions Award will initially recognize at least five awardees, with a maximum of one award per institution.

Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Mackenzie Salisbury (Northwestern University): She is presenting a workshop at the Library Publishing Forum in Seattle, June 16-18, 2026.
    • Brandon Board (Waubonsee Community College): He runs an annual workshop series to onboard faculty converting courses to OER. Seven courses across six faculty are being updated for fall, with notable remixing work. This is the largest cohort to date.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • CARLI All-Committees Kickoff Meeting
      • July 23, 2026, 1:00 p.m. 
      • Open to all committee members; will be recorded. This will be the first kickoff with CARLI Director Laurie Blandino.
    • Digital Possibilities Webinar Series is continuing, with a potential session on AI.
    • Illinois SCOERs
      • CARLI is seeking someone to translate OER text from English into Spanish.
    • LibreTexts Trainings
      • Announcements and office hours on 3D printing resources will be sent out the week of June 15.
    • ILSOS/ISL OER Grants
      • Final reports due July 15, 2026.
    • U.S. Department of Education Open Textbooks Pilot Program
      • A call was announced in late May 2026 with a June 23 deadline. CARLI investigated applying but determined it was not feasible given the short timeline.

Discussion

  • CARLI Member OER Initiative
    • Remaining purchasing and staff tasks are being finalized. All moving along on schedule.
  • Committee Membership
    • Thanks extended to rotating-off members Joslyn A. and Lauren K. Zach C. and Brandon B. agreed to serve as Co-Chairs for the next academic year, with support from CARLI staff, who will prepare the agenda for the first meeting.
  • Continuing Education for FY26
    • Slide decks will be updated after OEN Engage (July 21-22). 
    • Robin H. will update the OER Faculty Workshop for content. 
    • Kelly H. will also update the faculty workshop and apply the new CARLI template. 
    • Shelly M. will migrate the OER Course to the new template. 
    • Accessibility review priorities: alt text on all images, font size and color contrast, and correct reading order in slides.
    • Nicole offered to assist with accessibility checking. 
    • A new Box folder for AY26-27 will be created with all current materials and the new template.
  • AY25-26 Programs
    • Programs offered this year included the OER Course: Understanding and Promoting OER; OER Faculty Workshop; Open Pedagogy Workshop; OER Community Chats (including the joint chat with the Public Services Committee on Libraries and Student Belonging); and subject-specific Virtual Faculty and Instructor OER Meetups.
  • Illinois Course Materials Survey: Faculty Perspective
    • Feedback has been incorporated. Nicole will present to the CARLI Board on June 12. If approved, IRB process will begin the following week.
  • ILOE Update
    • Going forward, ILOE minutes will be attached to meeting materials in lieu of a formal verbal update.
    • Robin will obtain the link from Lauren.
  • Open Illinois Hub Promotion
    • To be planned for next academic year. Committee discussed embedding brief mentions in existing faculty workshops. Reminder to use the CARLI Promotions slide in all committee slide decks.
  • CARLI Support for Member Continuing Education / Certificate Programs
    • CARLI's business manager confirmed funding is available pending a committee statement of support. The committee agreed to continue supporting the three current programs (OEN, Creative Commons, Open Pedagogy). Additional programs may be proposed via email before the August meeting.
  • CARLI OER Champions Award
    • Mackenzie will contact Lauren and coordinate the award process.
    • Nominations due August 31, 2026.
    • The committee agreed: at least 5 awards, maximum one per institution.
    • These parameters will be stated in the Call for Nominations. Remaining details (rubric, etc.) to be finalized at the August meeting.
  • CARLI OER Annual Report
    • Reviewed, finalized, and submitted. 
    • Board review June 12.
    • Thanks to Shelly for her work on the report.

The next OER Committee meeting will be in August 2026 (date TBD). Minutes taker: TBD.
