PDA Event: Training that Sticks - Improving Onboarding for Staff Online
This program will examine the successes and failures of training new employees. Attendees will learn barriers to training, common mistakes to avoid, effective training strategies to implement, appropriate training timelines, and how to create a more effective training program for their library staff.
Presenter:
Madeline Sims, Library Technical Services Program Coordinator at Florida State College at Jacksonville, began her library career working at small career colleges for ten years, working as a solo librarian who oversaw collection development, reference, information literacy, cataloging, acquisitions, processing, and more. In 2017, she discovered her true calling in the library world: working in technical services. Madeline enjoys being the behind the scenes wizard who catalogs, troubleshoots, trains, supports, and fixes (almost) everything that comes her way. In every role she has had, she has become an “accidental trainer” — whether for supervisees, colleagues, managers, or directors. She strives to provide a consistent training approach to new and current staff in regards to library technical services matters.
