• CARLI Announcements:
  • Launched the CARLI OER Initiative!
  • Illinois SCOERs
    • One year evaluation is coming up.
    • Workshops available: LibreTexts + H5P events are scheduled; went out with the newsletter.
  • Out of the MHEC meeting: Trainings on other resources like OER Commons, or the Inky which has free access to a limited version of Pressbook.
  • If there are workshops on OER production that we want, let Michele know and they can do their best to come up with some materials.
  • Shelly comments that most people don’t understand Creative Commons Open Licenses, a workshop on this would be great.
  • Michele talked about open-source software in supporting faculty in OER work that might also be a good workshop.
  • Also, maybe a Fair Use workshop

• CARLI Member OER Initiative:
  • Procurement process, not a grant.
  • If anyone has questions, email CARLI Support. Qualtrics survey for the application was created with input from the documents this group discussed.
  • Rubric that was created is on the website.
  • On February 24th there will be a recorded information session on the Initiative. There will be time for questions. Depending on the number of submissions, members of this committee may be asked to be part of the review process.
  • Question about the governing signature as the person submitting may not have the authority. CARLI staff will determine how to resolve this issue.
  • Question if OER Committee members may submit a proposal if they are part of the review process. CARLI staff will determine how to resolve this issue.
• Continuing Education for FY 26
  • Understanding and Promoting Open Education Resources had 9 attendees. OER Faculty Workshop is upcoming. Currently, there are 33 registrants.
  • Open Pedagogy Workshop is upcoming. There are currently 22 registrants.
  • Open Educational Resources and Public Services Committees joint Community Chat is upcoming. There are currently 37 registrants.
  • Subject Specific Faculty Chats
    • STEM chat included a lot of conversations about what tools people are using.
      • Padlet was a success!
      • Overall, the session was rewarding and had an active chat.
    • Social Science chat is upcoming with 20 registrants currently.
    • Humanities chat is upcoming with 10 registrants currently.
• Illinois Course Materials Survey: Faculty Perspectives
  • Group is reviewing existing surveys and pulling together questions in different categories for the survey by Feb 20th.
  • Group will rank the questions and/or offering new wording etc. by Feb 25th.
  • Finalizing by Feb 26th meeting at 10am. 
  • Sending final questions to CARLI Board on March 2nd.
  • Timeline meant to give institutions the summer to get their processes in place before things are due.
  • Discussed title – taking the student survey title and replacing the word “student” with “faculty” -- Illinois Course Materials Survey: Faculty Perspectives.
• Other Update: MHEC OER Summit
  • Lauren and Zach were part of a team along with Dan Matthews at the MHEC OER Summit in Rosemont.
  • Amy + Mark from SIU Press received a grant to hold an event in March.
    • Strategic planning and coordination across the state to support open publishing.
    • SIU Press – planning sessions revealed that the SIU Press may be able to help support OER publishing, which can help faculty members with buy in, and exposure, as well as Print on Demand functions that are really a big strength. Offers some interesting ways to look at branding, delivery of content, and partnering with SIU Press to benefit a lot of stakeholders
  • Also, a discussion of short-term v long term goals. OER Champions awards. This may be something that CARLI can work on with the OER Committee including what proposals and nominations would look at this, how many awards. Not monetary, maybe a certificate or something. Could award at the CARLI Annual Meeting, or an ILOE/CARLI event could also be a place for awards. CARLI’s Internal OER committee agrees it would be a good way to identify and help faculty. Add this to the agenda for the next meeting.
  • During the Summit, conversations with other midwestern institutions showed that we are strong in this work, and it was good to see that where our colleagues are sharing strengths and challenges as well. Others look up to Illinois, CARLI, and the OER Committee as something to emulate. Our political climate is also better for this work in terms of legislators – good to remember that we have this kind of support!

• ILOE Update
  • Kicking off with smaller topical subcommittees planning meetings. 
  • Anyone interested can join a subcommittee. If committee members are interested, contact Lauren.
• Open Illinois Hub Promotion
  • Committee agreed that a slide should be added to all of our slide decks that directs people to add their materials to the Open Illinois Hub.
  • Committee will plan for the summer to schedule some add-a-thons later in the semester/summer. Schedule mini depositing session for the committee members.
