Decisions

• December 6, 2025 minutes were not approved as they were not submitted. We will table the approval until next meeting.
• CARLI staff will add an article about CARLI’s OER Commons Hub – Open Illinois to the January newsletter.

Discussion

• CARLI OER Grant Program
  • Revised draft available in the CARLI OER Committee folder.
  • CARLI will email additional criteria for review of proposal. Any feedback should be submitted by end of next week, January 16.
• OER Course: Understanding and Promoting OER; January 14, 21, 28, 2026.
  • Julie Murphy (ISU) and Shelly McDavid (SIUE) are presenting.
  • Current registration is at 11 of a maximum 15. 
• OER Faculty Workshop, February 19, 1:00-2:30 p.m. 
  • Joslyn and Robin are presenting.
• Open Pedagogy Workshop, March 4, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Kelly and Lauren are presenting.
• OER Community Chats 
  • Joint CARLI OER Committee and Public Services Committee Community Chat on Libraries and Student Belonging, March 5, 9:00-10:00 a.m. – Dee Anna Phares (NIU) and Devon Blumenshine (ICC) are leading the discussion
• Open Education Week (March 2-6, 2026)

• Subject specific Virtual Faculty and Instructors OER Meetups
  • Virtual OER Meetup for STEM Faculty, Instructors, and Librarians February 6, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., register is available. 
    • Current registration: 20
  • Virtual OER Meetup for Social Science Faculty, Instructor, and Librarians February 20, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., registration is available.
    • Current registration: 11
  • Virtual OER Meetup for Humanities Faculty, Instructors, and Librarians March 6, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., registration available soon.
  • Committee discussed logistics for the sessions.
    • There is no cap for attendance.
    • CARLI will be promoting it more next week. 
    • Shelly will develop some discussion questions/prompts for the conversation.
    • Committee discussed how to continue the conversations outside of meetups. Multiple options were mentioned including Discord channel, Padlet.
    • Committee decided to see what faculty might find most useful but will start with Padlet as an option as it is free to use and it can be used for ongoing working space for gatherings. 
    • Committee decided to have some direct questions for contact information, but facilitators can make the decision.

• Faculty OER Survey
  • Subcommittee will continue to meet. 
• ILOE Update: No updates
• Open Illinois Hub Promotion
  • Additional clear documentation on how to get resources added to the hub, and how to get users added
  • Suggested an Add-a-thon for adding the resources with support.
  • Lauren was going to provide additional information: more information to come. 
  • CARLI staff can add a blurb on the CARLI newsletter as a reminder to members that this is a resource available.

    • To date there have been 3 applicants. 

Announcements

• Member Announcements:
  • Zach Claybaugh (Dominican University): He has an Open Education podcast.
• CARLI Announcements:
  • OER Grant OER Updates
    • There were LibreTexts workshops in December and more will be scheduled. 
    • Illinois SCOERS
      • This grant is wrapping up and getting ready for final report this summer.
      • CARLI is working with outside firm for data analysis that will set up tools/templates for future use. 
    • Illinois State Library Grants
      • Wrapping up as well. Data collection in the Spring semester
      • Reminder sent that the quarterly report is due January 15.
  • CARLI OER Email List
    • The list is open to all in Illinois.
