CARLI Executive Director Susan Singleton Retires

Susan Singleton, CARLI's first Executive Director following the formation of the consortium in 2005, retires on July 29. "It has been an honor to work with the staff and directors of the academic libraries in the state and with the CARLI staff throughout this first decade of CARLI’s existence.” said Singleton. "I have no doubt that new director Anne Craig, the Board of Directors, and the CARLI staff working with the truly outstanding CARLI community, will ensure a smooth transition for CARLI's future."

From John Jochman Album (Benedictine University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

The John Jochman Album is a delightful collection of candid and formal photos of Benedictine monks and students from St. Procopius Academy and St. Procopius College taken during the early part of the 20th century.

Millidek (1945)

Serious business or practical joke? That is the question that comes to mind when we examine this photograph in the 1945 edition of the Millidek yearbook.

Last night (June 23) at 10:30PM I staged a firewall rule in a new security device for the Production server. This rule was disabled but it appears that the existance of the rule blocked network access to the server. The rule was removed at 7:00AM this morning restoring service.

Throughout the rest of June and July, I will be migrating more services behind the security device and there will most likely be more interruptions to service. I will try to make sure they are short disruptions and I apologize for the outage.

From Building UIC - The Facilities Collection (University of Illinois at Chicago) in CARLI Digital Collections.

It's been an interesting fiscal year for higher education in Illinois, and on many occasions I have found my thoughts drawn to decades in which funding levels enabled universities to expand campuses and curricula.

CARLI staff are pleased to announce that we now have VuFind 3 available for I-Share library staff testing and review. Please see the information below on how to access VuFind 3 and how to send us feedback about it. We look forward to hearing from you!
VuFind 3 is significantly different from VuFind 0.6 that is currently in use for I-Share libraries, and should be considered a new system, rather than an upgrade to the version of VuFind now in use with I-Share.

From  St. Ansgarius Episcopal Church Records (North Park University) in CARLI Digital Collections.

I was delighted when North Park University published this collection of 19th century records from St. Ansgarius Episcopal Church in Chicago. My understanding is that many of these documents have been restricted for years due to their fragile condition, so it is wonderful that we can now view them online in digital format.
