Library Student Success Program Assistant - University of Illinois Chicago

Reporting to the Undergraduate Engagement Coordinator, the UIC Library Student Success Program Assistant will assist in the planning and implementation of programs and events for the University Library’s Undergraduate Engagement Program, graduate student and community engagement program activities. They will organize and plan campus events, coordinate publicity, communicate with Library and campus partners, and assist with event management. The Program Assistant will also provide administrative and data entry support for the UEP and graduate engagement program activities and participate in special projects as needed.

Work Hours*: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. 

*May be required to work evening/weekend hours as needed to manage events. 

Work Location: This position will be located primarily onsite. Some remote workdays may be available depending on onsite programming and scheduled events.

About the Library Student Success Program 

The UIC Library Student Success Program is a library initiative which includes various types of engagement efforts – a formal information literacy program, the Undergraduate Engagement Program (UEP), research support, and student and community engagement programming. It is the aim of the Library Student Success Program to build awareness and enhanced use of UIC Library spaces, services, collections, and resources.

The UEP’s goal is that students will redefine their relationship with information and the research process. The UEP’s primary tenets are culture and social justice initiatives, mental health and wellness initiatives, new student orientation of first-year, transfer or prospective students, and collaborating with academic student support services and the Centers for Cultural Understanding and Social Change.

Job Duties

  • Participates in the planning, implementation and staffing of programming and events for the UEP.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation and staffing of graduate student and community-centered programs and events on the east and west sides of the Chicago campus.
  • Coordinates publicity materials to be sent out for events as well as fields general inquiry requests. 
  • Assists in managing the program calendar and UEP email system as well as schedule and correspond with campus partners as needed. 
  • Maintains UEP supply requests and invoices and tracks program expenses.
  • Assists with managing the events and troubleshooting any issues as needed.
  • Assists in administrative duties, including but not limited to database organization, maintenance of records, scheduling, and room and equipment reservations. 
  • Assists Undergraduate Engagement Coordinator with special projects and research as needed, including gathering data and creating spreadsheets, updating documents, performing data entry, and assisting with assessment.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree. 
  2. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in programming or event planning.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
