Thursday, December 17, 2020 - 3:00pm to 4:30pm

During this session held on Friday, 12/17 from 3-4:30pm central, topics of discussion included:

  • Announcement and Reminders:
    • CARLI Office Closed: Dec. 24-Jan.3
    • Ex Libris Status page: https://status.exlibrisgroup.com/
      • CARLI recommends all staff who work with Alma or Primo VE should subscribe for notifications.
      • We are on Alma NA06 and Primo VE NA06
    • Four current projects ongoing:
      • Enabling Overdue Notices:
        • CARLI Office staff are meeting with libraries that are interested in turning overdue notices on in Alma. In the meetings, we review the history of notices in Alma, discuss the settings in Alma Configuration responsible for notices, and libraries decide on date to turn Overdue notices on.
        • About 6 libraries have enabled notices in December; it is possible that your patrons could start getting overdue notices from the item's institution even if your institution doesn't have them on.
        • There will be more sessions added in January/February.
      • Adjusting Local/I-Share Lending status as libraries close for the winter holidays:
        • This year is different from past years because in Voyager we didn't stop resource sharing, we paused it. Patrons could keep placing requests and they sat in queues. In future we'll probably do Alma similarly, but this year with the uncertainty of the pandemic we didn't want to allow users to place requests while the libraries are closed just in case libraries may not be able to open when expected.
      • Setting Term Loans:
        • The CARLI Board met in December to set a new term loan date for May 7, 2021 for new I-Share loans, under guidance of the CARLI Resource Sharing Committee.
        • New loans to I-Share patrons will receive the 5/7/2021 due date, and I-Share patrons (with future record expire dates) that have materials checked out can also renew them to 5/7/2021, but, CARLI Office staff are not doing any bulk due date extensions.
        • For local patrons, CARLI staff will send (have now sent at time notes posted) a survey to ask each institution if you want to use the May 7 term loan date for local patron loans as well, or a different term loan date, or to revert to regular loan policies.
      • Adjustments to the fines and fees policies and the way they are assessed in Alma.
        • Following a CARLI Board decision, CARLI member libraries will no longer assess processing fees when items go to lost (Lost replacement fees will still apply) nor overdue fines for regular collection materials.
          • Specialized collections such as reserves or loanable tech, and user groups like community patrons, are all still eligible for overdue fines.
        • While we have not charged overdue fines to I-Share patrons for years, now we will also not charge them for local patrons for general collection materials.
        • CARLI Staff sent out a survey to ask each I-Share libarary about their plans for adjusting Alma Configuration to match the policy changes, and whether each institution preferred to make their own edits, or, to have CARLI Office staff make the edits on their behalf.
    • More notes will be added later.

Additional sessions of "Let's talk about Fulfillment (I mean Alma, not life's purpose)" are scheduled/have occurred.
