June 12, 2026 Board Minutes

In-person and Via Zoom

Attendance:  Laurie Blandino (CARLI ), Stefanie Bluemle (Augustana College), Michelle Boule-Smith (North Central College), Jan Figa (Governors State University), Marlee Graser (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville), Terra Jacobson (Moraine Valley Community College), Greg McCormick (Illinois State Library), Geoff Pettys (Southern Illinois University School of Medicine), Pattie Piotrowski (University of Illinois Springfield), Amanda Pippitt (Millikin University), and Rachelle Stivers (Heartland Community College).

Guests Attending: Spencer Brayton (Waubonsee Community College), and Steven Harris (Northeastern Illinois University).

Staff Attending: Margaret Chambers, Elizabeth Clarage, Diane Day, Jessica Gibson, Michelle Haake, Jennifer Masciadrelli, Nicole Swanson, and Jenny Taylor.

Absent: Carolyn Ciesla (Elmhurst University), Brian Keith (Eastern Illinois University), Dennis Krieb (Lewis and Clark Community College), and Morgann Quilty (Parkland Community College).  

Decisions

  • Minutes of the March 6, 2026, Governance Board meeting were approved prior to the meeting.
  • The Board approved the meeting schedule for 2026-2027.
  • The Board committees for FY2027 were completed.
  • The Board approved the extension of the term of the Advocacy Task Force through June 2027.
  • The meeting adjourned at 12:50 p.m.

Announcements

  • Results of the 2026 Governance Board election were announced. Directors elected to 3-year terms are: Spencer Brayton, Waubonsee Community College; Carolyn Ciesla, Elmhurst University; and Steven Harris, Northeastern Illinois University. Directors appointed to one-year terms are: Dennis Krieb, Lewis and Clark Community College; Geoff Pettys, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine; and Amanda Pippitt, Millikin University.
  • The Board thanked outgoing members Jan Figa (Governors State University), Morgann Quilty (Parkland College), and Past Chair Pattie Piotrowski (University of Illinois Springfield). 
  • New I-Share libraries, Chicago History Museum and Field Museum will go live on June 17.
  • The Board discussed results of the OCLC Survey.
  • The Board discussed results of the ILL Survey.
  • CARLI is in final negotiations with EBSCO for CARLI’s aggregated database package.
  • CARLI staff have finished adding accessibility language to all electronic resource contracts.
  • CARLI staff have finalized FY2027 agreements for access to consortial ebooks. Sixty CARLI member libraries committed funding for the FY2027 CARLI Ebook Program. 
  • The Illinois SCOERs grant is in the fourth quarter of the 5th and final year of the grant. Currently, efforts are being focused on data collection and analysis.
  • CARLI Staff, in collaboration with an advisory subcommittee of CARLI members, have developed the “Illinois Course Materials Survey: Faculty Perspective”. The survey is expected to launch in August 2026 and remain open through February 2027.
  • The CARLI Scholarship Committee has selected recipients for the 2026-2027 school year. The recipients are Kennedy Gerton, Greenville University and Levi Curtis, University of Chicago.
  • Throughout FY26 PDA partners have shared 128 free continuing education webinars available to all CARLI members. 
  • PALNI, the Private Academic Network of Indiana, has joined the Professional Development Alliance.
  • The Board accepted the CARLI Committee’s Annual Reports and thanked them for their work. 

Tasks Assigned:

  • CARLI staff will work with the Board to fill the Chair Elect position for FY2027.
  • CARLI staff will analyze usage data of Business Source Premier and Business Source Elite.
  • CARLI staff will initiate conversations about OCLC convening RAILS, IHLS, the Illinois State Library and other library consortia to understand the usage of OCLC.
