Body to which the group reports: Governance Board
The Archives Committee will support CARLI’s commitment to members’ efforts with physical and digital archives, including their development, stewardship, and promotion, as well as identifying the best practices and continuing education for members related to archives and special collections. This commitment includes planning and delivering statewide training about archives and special collections and developing web resources related to archives and primary resources. Through periodic assessment of member needs, the committee would survey members to assess ongoing and/or changing needs and priorities for training and other support methods.
The CARLI Governance Board may assign the committee projects or independently develop projects and initiatives within the scope of their charge or in collaboration with other ad hoc groups. The Archives Committee acknowledges historical, structural, and systemic injustice and values diversity, equity, and inclusion principles. It will ensure that CARLI’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is embedded in their work. The committee will identify educational and training needs within its responsibilities and collaborate with other committees. It will also develop workshops, seminars, webinars, and other education opportunities to meet the membership's needs. The committee will prepare appropriate documentation and reports and submit an annual report of its activities and accomplishments to the CARLI Governance Board.
We encourage the membership of the Archives Committee to include a variety and diversity of perspectives, from individuals working in smaller institutions to larger institutions, from solo archivists to ones with a team. This includes staff from CARLI Member institutions working with or overseeing archives and/or special collections materials, with representation of staff who have received archival certifications such as Society of American Archivists Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) or Arrangement and Description certificates or Academy of Certified Archivists Certified Archivist status.
