Sub-Committee Reports

  • Training Sub-Committee (Stephanie):
    • The group is interested in working with the Authorities Sub-Committee to develop a training session about authorities work.
    • The sub-committee is considering a program on OCLC WorldShare Record Manager and inquired about other librarians’ experience with this product; committee members have almost no experience with this product; Stephanie will email Ted to inquire if any CARLI libraries use it.
    • Another idea is to collect and publish training/curricular materials on the CARLI website; these would be materials about general cataloging procedures, not necessarily specific to Alma (selecting subject headings, building a call number, how to use LC classification, formatting labels, MARC record fields, etc.) and could be especially useful for libraries who are training new graduate student workers or entry-level catalogers; Tammie expressed interest in this project.
  • Authorities Sub-Committee (Lauren):
    • The sub-committee may be interested in collaborating with the Training Sub-Committee on programming.
    • They will have a more complete update at the next meeting.
  • Suggested Priorities Sub-Committee (Tammie):
    • The group is working through the suggested maintenance activities for bibs/items.
    • They are in the “new projects” category which is about halfway through.
    • The sub-committee will report questions and feedback to the full committee at the end of the project for discussion.

New Business: None.

Other Business: None.

Tammie adjourned the meeting at 1:23pm and attendees entered into break-out sessions for their sub-committee meetings.

The next Technical Services Committee meeting will be Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 1:00pm on Zoom.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Stephanie Fletcher.
