Discussions/Continuing Business
- Minutes from the October 11, 2023, meeting were approved.
- Recap of subcommittee work:
- Jackie reported for the Suggested Priorities subcommittee
- The committee went through the existing list of cleanup projects to identify which are still current concerns and to find documentation
- Stephanie reported for the Training subcommittee
- The committee reviewed the session evaluations from the Connexion client training last year to get ideas for additional training. They reviewed the cataloging survey from 2022 to see what training was suggested. There is interest in learning more about original cataloging, OCLC save file/file management and Connexion batch processing, other ways to edit and manipulate WorldCat records, more practical advice from peers. Other training ideas: working with records for electronic materials, other Alma training with local best practices and tips, printing labels from Alma, Rialto training, and API integration.
- Brent reported for the Authorities subcommittee
- The committee discussed the Preferred Term Correction job in Alma and decided we need to test how it works for us in order to know if it would be beneficial. Another way of updating headings is using the OCLC update service which a few I-Share libraries are already using. Could it be implemented by CARLI for the NZ? An obstacle to updating records is the presence of duplicate bibs (the CMC is still working on eliminating duplicates). The committee reviewed the “authority control in Alma” document created by Ted and the documents from the ethical cataloging subcommittee from 2021-2022. Ted reported that has completed the first step in updating the “illegal aliens” LCSH headings in the NZ and only a handful of records remain that need manual updating.
- Logistics of Breakout Groups: The committee decided to report on subcommittee work at the beginning of the next meeting. Notes documents were created in the 2023-2024 TSC Files Box folder to keep ongoing records of subcommittee work:
New Business
Lauren reported that Columbia College has created a statement on harmful language in the catalog.

The next Technical Services Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM on Zoom.
Respectfully Submitted,
