Tasks Assigned

  • Minutes taken by Charity Ringel.

Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Arlie Sims (Columbia College Chicago) - Columbia College Chicago applied for the Illinois State Library (ISL) OER grant. Specifically, they submitted a math OER and for a Spanish translation of an existing English work.
    • Kimberly Shotick (Northern Illinois University) - NIU submitted an application with multiple OER projects, and she is working on another project from Dominican.
    • Beth Hultman (Elgin Community College) – Her institution struggled to pull people together to submit a grant.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • The OER Committee will host a 3-week OER course, Understanding and Promoting OER, recently revamped to emphasize campus integration and outreach. Two sessions are available: May 10, 17, 24 and June 10, 17, 24.
    • The Preservation Committee will host “Poison in the Stacks: Ongoing Research on Heavy Metals in 19th Century Books.” There will be presenters from University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. It is aimed to apply to numerous institution types. It will not recorded.
    • CARLI is working with WEST, a shared serial storage option. CARLI members can pay to join for access to WEST to reduce storage needs and ensure continued serials access.
    • The Instruction Committee is hosting a community building event, Apr. 25, at Elgin Community College. There are spots still available.
    • EBSCOhost is rolling out its new user interface. Institutions can opt-in, but there will be a mandatory switch in January 2025.

Discussion

  • Three respondents were selected by interviews and contacted by Arlie and Ashley. They agreed to participate in an interview.
  • A timeline was discussed, and it was agreed that interviews would be conducted before the May meeting. This allows more interviews to occur before the program, if needed. And in May, we can focus on using the interviews to craft the June program. At least a month will be required for advertising the program. Potential program dates are: Jun. 20th in the morning and Jun. 24th in the afternoon.
  • Committee decided to draft interview questions in the meeting. They are in the committee’s Box folder. Numerous questions were discussed, and the committee discussed focusing on 2-3 general questions about their work and using other questions to follow-up as appropriate.
  • Arlie, Charity, and Beth agreed to meet and conduct interviews. They will report their findings for the May meeting.
  • After some discussion, it was decided that it would be best to wait to create a guide or report. The guide could focus on key steps, findings from survey, and/or a compilation of resources.
  • The Committee’s Annual Report and next year’s programming will be further discussed in future meetings.
  • Meeting concluded @ 3:03 p.m.
