Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Ashley McMullin (DePaul University) - Several departments are interested in applying for OER grants. DePaul is transitioning to Laganto (Ex Libres) and away from ARES.
    • Charity Ringel (University of Illinois Springfield) – Charity Ringel is attending the CARLI Counts program.
    • Arlie Sims (Columbia College Chicago) - Columbia faculty/librarian team is applying for the ISL OER Grant for first-year mathematics text and ancillaries as well as Spanish translation of the math resources and the Authoring Culture OER created through the Illinois SCOERs grant.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • Collection Management Committee have put out a call for panelists to do a series about weeding and shifting (projects that are unexpected). Asking for presenters to do 3-5 minute presentations with discussion following.
    • Currently hosting “Getting to Know Illinois SCOERs OER” programs highlighting current grant projects. (Will be recorded.)  (details here)
    • Professional Development Alliance – various programs – details here
    • Instruction Committee will have a virtual Instruction Showcase and has an open Call for Proposals.
    • Also EBSCO is providing webinar sessions on March 20 for their EBSCOHost New Interface for Admins and May 16 for their new EBSCOHost Interface for Public Services Staff.

Discussion

  • Generative AI Survey Results
  • Low response that Libraries are taking lead on campuses.
  • High response on learning about different approaches in different fields and departments.
  • High response for “literacy” concerns like bias, ethics, etc.
  • Concerns:
    • Generative AI librarian involvement is happening department by department by liaisons.
    • IDEAS: Speakers or guides from librarians or library teams who are taking action on generative AI at their institutions.
  • PROGRAM – possibly in June. Denise will send out a survey to get availability for specific dates in June.
  • There has been an invitation to submit our results for publication in Internet Reference Services Quarterly. Committee decided to thank them, unable to take action at this time.
