Conference Call

Announcements

  • CARLI Updates:
    • Brandon Gant,  Director of Systems Services for CARLI is resigning; Gordon Fellows will serve as interim.
    • ACRL has put out a Call for Proposals for the 2019 ACRL Conference taking place In Cleveland.
    • Denise mentioned the upcoming CARLI Annual Meeting on November 17.
  • Member Updates:
    • Sarah Hill was welcomed to the Public Services Committee.
    • Nestor announced that NIU is beginning the first round of a comprehensive Library Assessment based on the University’s 2015 plan.
    • Cory reported on the 2017 Charleston Library Conference, specifically regarding artificial intelligence and the issue of reselling the licensing of e-resources (ReDigi court case).

Discussion

  • Annual Meeting Report and PowerPoint - Susan and Anne-Marie will present last year’s Annual Project and PowerPoint on Makerspaces at the CARLI Annual Meeting on November 17.
  • Open House Discussion
    • Millikin University is the only firm commitment for an Open House at this time. Denise mentioned Millikin is very interested and would prefer to present on Thursday, March 15, 2018 during their Spring Break.
      • Millikin has a newly-renovated and expanded Library space that includes a Makerspace as well as shared spaces for tutoring and other academic services.
      • Millikin may offer enough to fill up a full day for an Open House. If not, Illinois Wesleyan University and Quincy University were mentioned as possibilities to present at Millikin based on geographic proximity.
    • There may be a possibility for another Open House in northern Illinois, specifically around Joliet. Institutions mentioned include Governors State University, Joliet Junior College, and Lewis University.
  • Annual Project
    • Several libraries utilizing single service points were mentioned as possibilities for the annual project.
    • These institutions include Governors State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, North Central College, Quincy University, Robert Morris University (Chicago), Rosalind Franklin University, University of St. Francis, and Wheaton College
  • Technical Services Committee Update
    • Follow-up on the Technical Services conference call/webinar in October/request of relevance to the Public Services Committee
    • Elizabeth mentioned that committee has done what we need to do regarding this webinar unless we are asked to respond to specific queries from the Technical Services Committee.

Tasks Assigned

  • Aaron Harwig took minutes.
  • Denise will draft a message to other institutions about presenting at the Millikin Open House.
  • Denise will draft documents regarding Open Houses and Website to document these events.

Next Meeting

The next Public Services Committee Meeting will take place Monday, December 11 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM (conference call).
