Decisions

• Updates on future events to be discussed at March meeting: fire salvage, revisiting idea for open house at Newberry/partnerships with SAA during August Annual Meeting in Chicago.
• Bonnie Parr to create first draft of a new preservation survey for CARLI members.
• Brad to explore possible events with Digital POWRR.
• CARLI will share information about IFSI Burn Simulation and Recover Workshop via email before the March meeting
• Shelby will query the group by email to change the date of the April meeting.

Discussion

• Monthly Preservation Topics: Disaster planning and response. Patti prepared article on apps and tech. Members asked to review. In March, Bonnie and Brad will prepare an article about collection-specific salvage. Elizabeth requests that draft is submitted to Box by March 20th to allow time for them to review and get it up on the site and ready for the newsletter. For April, Tonia is preparing tips on how to work with disaster response vendors.  
• Link checking: Nothing new to approve today. Shelby recapped for Bonnie how the group adds, reviews, and approves link changes. Shelby recommended that Brad adds Digital POWRR to the digital preservation section.
• 2023-24 committee project/continuing education programing plans: Heavy metals in 19th century books: Tonia, Patti, and Shelby on April 30th from 1-2:30. Nicole asked that the presenters confirm the dates and submit bio information and optional head shots because they would like to open registration by Friday, February 16, 2024.
• 2023-24 committee project/continuing education programming plans: IFSI fire salvage in-person workshop in spring. CARLI received cost quote and it is being reviewed internally. CARLLI will share more information by email before the March meeting.   
• 2023-24 committee project/continuing education programming plans: Preservation survey for members. The last survey was March 5, 2015. Bonnie revisited her paper notes and was not able to locate digital version of notes. She plans to have information ready for the group by the next meeting and will put it in the Box folder. She will include notes on possible areas to update, such as AI. Shelby asked if a 2024-2025 timeline for the survey made sense.
• 2023-24 committee project/continuing education programming plans: Brad recapped that he started a conversation with NIU’s Digital POWRR on the possibility of holding a training session on some aspect of digital preservation. Shelby recommends focusing it to help smaller institutions and asked that next month we talk more about possible timeline, length, and focus. Nicole asked the group to consider collaborating with other CARLI digital workshops and noted some are slated to happen in summer and that fall is a good time as well.  
• 2023-24 committee project/continuing education programming plans: In Gabriel’s absence, the group decided not to talk about a preservation open house for CARLI members at the Newberry Library based on nixed plans from 2020 and whether this could coincide with SAA’s conference in Chicago.
• Bonnie requested that the group’s April meeting be changed, and Shelby will email the group to see if Monday, April 22, 2024 at 1 PM is suitable for everyone. Nicole will put a tentative calendar hold on that time.
