Tasks Assigned

  • Minutes taken by Brandon Board.
  • Mackenzie will write an announcement for the Open Illinois Hub Add-a-thon workshop for the March CARLI Newsletter. This is due March 20.
  • CARLI staff will add to the March CARLI Newsletter information about member support for the Creative Commons Certificate.
  • Shelly will share a draft committee annual report for the committee to review at its April 9 meeting.
  • CARLI staff and Lauren, Kelly, & Brandon will form a subcommittee to discuss next steps for a CARLI OER Champions Award.
  • Elizabeth will reach out to Lauren to review adding resources to OER Commons.

Decisions

  • February 12, 2026 minutes were approved with some corrections.
  • OER Committee will offer its OER Faculty Workshop in fall 2026 and spring 2027.
  • Committee will host two add-a-thons for OER Commons for members to add resources to the site on April 23, 2026 at 10-11 a.m. for committee members and 1-2 p.m. for all CARLI members.
  • Committee is in favor of developing a CARLI OER Champions Award.

Announcements

  • “Mini-conference” on OER publishing with SIU Press later this month.  Some members of CARLI OER Committee are planning to attend, will report back during April 9 meeting.
  • Member Announcements:
    • Brandon Board (Waubonsee Community College): He is presenting at League for Innovations Conference on OER/IA coexistence.
    • Mackenzie Salisbury (Northwestern University):  Ran syllabus review workshop with Center for Teaching & Learning, to facilitate integration of OER into existing courses.
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • Update about Illinois SCOERs awardees & LibreTexts trainings. Lots of “spring cleanup” of LibreTexts resources going on.
    • Upcoming OER PDA webinars:
      • April 2: Open Education vs Inclusive/Equitable Access: Cage Match vs Co-Existence? (https://www.carli.illinois.edu/pda-event-open-education-vs-inclusive/equitable-access-cage-match-vs-co-existence)
        • Zach is one of the presenters for this session.

Discussion

  • CARLI Member OER Initiative
    • Members of this group will be invited to assist in review of proposals.
    • CARLI staff is working on a form for potential recusals.
    • Scheduling an all-reviewer meeting April 9 1-2pm, which leaves 3 weeks to complete reviews.
    • Can the committee commit to offering the OER Faculty Workshops for FY27?  Some interest among applicants to incentivize faculty to attend.
      • Committee sees this as a reasonable request to accommodate. Some discussion as to who leads the sessions. Robin & Shelly potential volunteers.
  • Continuing Education for FY26
    • Have completed a lot of continuing ed this year. OER Course, OER Faculty Workshop, Open Pedagogy Workshop, Community Chat on Libraries & Student Belonging.
    • Discipline specific OER Meetings are completed. We have held meetups for faculty in STEM, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
      • Only 1 attended the Humanities meetup. Questions about why such low attendance – time of day, spring break?
        • Many more were registered/interested who did not attend.
        • Consider trying again.  Either this semester or in ~6 months.
          • Ideal timing varies by campus. 
          • Considering a mid-late May meetup (after semester is done, before faculty leave for summer).
  • Illinois Course Materials Survey: Faculty Perspective
    • Subcommittee has met several times to collaborate on specific questions to include.
    • CARLI staff are pulling together a draft survey based on these conversations for the subcommittee to review.
    • Once questions/formats are settled, the draft survey will share with CARLI Board for review.
    • Conversations among the subcommittee, while good, are taking a little longer than expected.  As a result, the survey timeline has been extended.  New timeline still allows for sharing out the survey over the summer, with the goal to begin collecting responses in the fall.
  • ILOE Update
    • ILOE general meeting scheduled for March 20, 2026, 10am-12pm.
    • Committee meetings are ongoing. Committee chairs will share updates during the general meeting.
  • Open Illinois Hub Promotion
    • “Add-a-thon” Workshops for adding resources to the OER Commons platform with support.
      • OER Committee will do a small-scale add-a-thon with just us to learn the ropes, then a larger event with a broader invitation.
        • April 23rd, 10-11a.m. Session for the OER Committee and Lauren will lead. Plan to record the demo portion to share with those unable to attend.
        • April 23rd, 1-2p.m. Session for all CARLI members invited.
          • CARLI staff will include information about the CARLI member workshop in the newsletter this month.  Mackenzie will draft a blurb (due March 20).
    • Slide to include in presentations by this Committee and/or other CARLI committees has been created.
  • CARLI Support for Member Continuing Education
    • CC Certificate Program: June session being added to March newsletter for promotion.
  • CARLI OER Champions Award
    • CARLI OER team thought it was a good idea, but Member Initiative was prioritized.
    • Now that Member Initiative is out, we have some time to think about this in more depth.
    • Tentative timeline: nominations between now/end of semester, review over summer, announce winners in the fall.
    • Lauren, Kelly, & Brandon will form a subcommittee to discuss next steps.
  • CARLI OER Annual Report
    • Shelly will draft Annual report prior to April 9 Committee meeting, send to Committee for review/discussion at meeting.
    • Deadline for report completion is due by end of May.
    • FY25 Annual Report available for review.
