Announcements

• Member Announcements:
  • Shelly McDavid (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville): Campus will be hosting open pedagogy workshops next year. Thanks, Dee Anna!
  • Dee Anna Phares (Northern Illinois University): NIU handed out department awards for OER adoption. 
  • Zachariah Claybaugh (Dominican University): Recently awarded 3 groups of faculty fellows support for OER. 
• CARLI Announcements:
  • Members rolling off the committee were announced. Thank you to Dorinne Banks, Brandon Board, and Dee Anna Phares for your service on the committee!
  • Upcoming online and in-person CARLI workshops were announced. 
  • Call for proposals: Soaring with Open Educational Resources: Furthering the Role of Cooperative Development in OER held at the I Hotel and Illinois Conference Center, Champaign, July 29-30, 2025. Proposals due May 23, 2025.

Discussion

• OER Committee Charge Review 
  • The committee expressed a focus on training and workshops in the current charge, which members may want to explore for the next year. The committee expressed a desire to review the findings of the OER Summit to help direct efforts for the upcoming year.
• State Funding for Open Education
  • IL HB3411 has not moved out of committee yet. The committee will continue to monitor the bill for state funding for OER until a FY26 budget is passed. A number of individuals and institutions have signed on to the CARLI Statement on the Need for Funding for Open Education in Illinois. The statement is open and available for signatures of support.
• OER Committee Initiatives 
  • Continuing Education
    • The committee discussed the OER Course: Understanding and Promoting OER being held in May. Zachariah Claybaugh and Stephanie Fletcher are teaching the course, and the first session went well with enthusiastic participation.
    • The committee reviewed the OER Community Chat, Measuring Success Beyond Student Savings, held on April 17 and hosted by Lauren Kosrow, Zachariah Claybaugh, and Dee Anna Phares. It was successful event and productive conversation. One issue that was raised is the lagging indexing of Illinois SCOERs and ISL OER grant created materials in the Open Illinois Hub.
  • Creating a Student Course Materials Survey will be discussed at the next meeting.
  • There have not been any applicants for the Creative Commons Certificate Program.
  • Projects are reaching final milestones for the Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Library OER Grant Program.
  • DOE Open Textbook Pilot Grant: Illinois SCOERs: Support for the Creation of Open Educational Resources. Conference will be held in July.
  • Committee members discussed the Illinois OER Summit held on April 7, 2025 at Heartland Community College. The committee celebrated strong attendance from across Illinois. Planning committee is working with the data gathered via Menti. Feedback and resources will be shared out with attendees.
  • Annual report due in June. Co-chairs will share a draft with committee members for review.
