  • CARLI Annual Meeting highlights
    • Zachariah, Michele, and Dee Anna shared some of the major topics discussed during the table talk they hosted on “OER & Affordability: Engaging Your Institution”— including tackling faculty attitudes to open resources, addressing the complications of adjunct adoption of OER, acknowledging the need/desire for print books, and developing strategies for finding materials to support instruction at seminaries, theological schools, and church-affiliated institutions.

      • Open Pedagogy Workshop
        • Revision of materials
        • Shelly and Dee Anna developed a new and more interactive workshop with less focus on introductory OER content and specific examples of Open Pedagogy that attendees may already be familiar with.
        • Separate faculty and librarian presentations have been created.
          • The Open Pedagogy workshop has been reimagined as the second in a two-part series of courses: part one being either the OER Faculty Workshop or Understanding and Promoting OER.
          • Messaging will be added to the announcement and the registration page to help faculty or librarians choose the correct workshop based on their level of experience or professional development needs (OER or Open Pedagogy)

          • Those in attendance noted that there was great discussion that focused on the technical questions of how course marking works and how to encourage faculty buy-in.
        • November 14, 2024, 10:00–11:00am, Inclusive Access (Automatic Textbook Billing (Presenter: Zach; Notetaker: Lauren Kosrow).
          • 20 people have already registered.
        • Spring presenters are still needed, and volunteers are invited to sign up using the scheduling link.
          • February 2025 is tentatively slated to focus on OER Format Flexibility and Accessibility.
            • CARLI staff will reach out to instructional designers and accessibility coordinators to enquire about their ability to run a chat or chats.
          • April 2025
            • Kelly is willing to moderate a chat on AI and OER.
      • Open Education Week, March 3-7, 2025
        • Identified ideas:
          • Introducing newly created textbooks being developed as part of the ISL OER Grants
            • Date and time still to be determined.
          • Tuesday, March 4, 1:00-2:30pm: PDA Program: Turning Data into Action: Responding to Illinois Students' Need for Equity of Course Materials
          • Measuring OER success beyond student savings
            • This topic, originally intended for April 2025’s Community Chat, could be a draw.
            • Lauren, Zachariah, and Dee Anna could discuss alternative metrics and research on measuring success, but the session might allow participants to share ideas around current trends.
    • CARLI Funding Support for Member Continuing Education
      • CARLI held a helpful workshop to share information with potential applicants.
      • OEN Certificate in Open Education Librarianship
        • OEN extended the deadline to apply to November 1, 2024.
          • CARLI is waiting on acceptances.
      • OEN Certificate in Open Pedagogy
        • CARLI is waiting on acceptances.
      • Creative Commons Certificate Program
        • 1 person has requested support.
  • Illinois Secretary of State/Illinois State Library OER Grant Program
    • Michele informed the committee that all quarterly reports were submitted and accepted. She also announced that additional LibreTexts training will take place in the new year.
    • While there has been no formal announcement, CARLI has shared the institutions and projects that received grants. FY2024 SOS/ISL OER Grant Recipients
  • DOE Open Textbook Pilot Grant: Illinois SCOERs: Support for the Creation of Open Educational Resources
    • Michele noted that print copies of Illinois SCOERs-funded texts and examples of 3-D printed materials were displayed at CARLI Annual Meeting in October. She also announced that CARLI is planning a showcase to be held in July 29-30 at Urbana’s I-Hotel; it will feature sessions in which SCOERs can offer feedback on OER creation.
    • LibreTexts will soon be available for all CARLI institutions.
  • FY25 Activities
    • Illinois OER Summit, April 7, 2025, Illinois State University Alumni Center
      • The date and location have been confirmed. Members of the planning committee will share additional information at our December meeting.
  • Other Committee Work
    • Discussed the possibility of a savings tracker, webpages to highlight the successful work of IL institutions, or Illinois State Dashboard for OER
  • Explored the possibility of inviting speakers from outside the committee for the OER Community Chats.
  • Discussed the need for information on best practices for utilizing AI in OER creation to support faculty authors participating in ISL OER grant projects and others across the state who are looking for guidance on machine learning and open practice.
  • Talked about the possibility of submitting brief written reports, to be added to the agenda in advance, to ensure efficient use of meeting time.
