Announcements

  • Member Announcements:
    • Kim Hale (Columbia College Chicago): The SCOERs committee is hosting a session on the grant project and promoting what is possible with OER for all faculty and staff.
    • Dee Anna Phares (Northern Illinois University): Deanna is on the planning committee for LOEX, which will be held May 2-4, 2024 in Naperville. The call for presentations will be sent out soon, and she invited the committee, committee members to consider presenting.
    • Lauren Kosrow (College of DuPage): COD published 12 open projects this summer. All works will be indexed in the Open Illinois Hub soon.
  • CARLI Announcements:

Discussion

  • Review of continuing education opportunities.
    • OER Course: Understanding and Promoting OER – Christine gave a status report of the course update. Added more current information and additional asynchronous learning opportunities. Next meeting scheduled to finalize. Amber and Dorinne are teaching in October. Need volunteers for December, February, May, and June.
    • OER Faculty Workshop – Dorinne gave a status report of the course update. Consolidated information and added new content. Next meeting scheduled to finalize slides. Kim and Lauren are teaching in September. Need volunteers for February. Elizabeth suggested recording the workshop without the OEN incentive to write a review to post online.
    • Open Pedagogy Workshop: Christina, Dan, and Tineka will be teaching in October. Volunteers needed for March. We should consider offering an “Open Pedagogy for Librarians” session.
    • Community Chats: Need facilitators for fall and spring sessions.
  • Open Education Week: Will be looking for ideas and suggestions for the week of March 4-8, 2024. Possible ideas include student perspectives, faculty panels, and SCOERS presentations.
  • OEN Certificate in Open Education Librarianship: CARLI can support 5 upto five attendees.
  • Creative Commons Certificate Program: CARLI can support up to 8 attendees.
  • Secretary of State Funding: $3M was added to the Illinois Secretary of State’s Budget for an OER grant program for academic libraries. The Illinois State Library is looking into a model for state funding of OER efforts using this funding.
  • CARLI Student Course Materials Affordability Survey – The survey continues to get student responses. Survey closes December 31st.
