Decisions

  • May committee minutes were approved.
  • OER Faculty Workshops: To be offered between September 7th - 16th.
  • OER webpages review: Web pages will be split up amongst committee members or by month, to make the project more manageable, starting in July

Announcements

  • Member Announcements: None
  • CARLI Announcements:
    • Motions from OER Committee were reviewed at the CARLI Board meeting and approved.
    • When message has been sent to CCM Task Force, CARLI will also make it live on the website.
      • Motion 1: The CARLI OER Committee moves that the CARLI Board of Directors endorse the following statement to the College Course Materials Task Force. Upon endorsement, CARLI’s OER Committee chairs will send the statement to the CCM Task Force. Once endorsed by the CARLI Board, the statement will be available on the CARLI website.
      • Motion 2: As a second step, The OER Committee moves the CARLI Board of Directors make available the statement on the CARLI website for comment and individual institutional endorsement by CARLI Member Library Governing Directors.
    • Upcoming PDA Workshop on effective presentations: https://www.carli.illinois.edu/pda-event-power-presentation-enhancing-your-slides-engagement
    • Pricing from ExLibris has been negotiated for non-I-Share institutions to join I-Share.
    • OEN Summit is in July; “watch parties” are being encouraged, but platform for watch party needs to be decided.
  • Illinois SCOERs Grant Announcements
    • Announcement and applications going live soon for next round of funding.
    • Some University of Illinois Sponsored Program Administration paperwork is still pending.
    • The next round of subgrants has been “opened up” to include submissions for high-enrollment courses in addition to the topic area of the Human Condition that was required in the first round of funding.
    • Program Overviews, meetings, meet-and-greets are planned throughout the summer.
    • 3D Printers are being delivered to first-round recipients.

      • CARLI OER Course:
        • June 7, 14, 21, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Chris and Kim)
        • June 8, 15, 22, 2:30-4:00 p.m. (Christina and Dan)
        • Neither section is full due to some participants dropping out
        • Discussions have been good.
      • CARLI OER Faculty Workshop:
        • Schedule for fall: early to mid-September: 7th – 16th
        • Amber Burtis and Dan Matthews volunteered to teach the course in September.
      • OER Office Hours

    • FUTURE OER offerings. Summer courses and new options?
      • Student-focused efforts: program for librarians on involving students in OER efforts, Illinois student survey, resulting webpage and program.
        • It is in the works, many people working on it (Anne Craig, Sarah Hudson?,)
        • Intro to OER, but integrating many Illinois-focused student perspectives
    • Open Illinois Hub presentation at ILA Annual Conference proposal
      • Draft Proposal (Accepted)
    • Creative Commons Certificate Bootcamp
      • If CARLI-supported, likely to happen in 2023.
    • OER Advocacy Training Session
      • June 30th 9:30am – Zoom information has been sent
      • CARLI will meet with presenters before session to provide input on focus of session.
      • This committee has a more immediate interest on OER advocacy, but perhaps future offerings could address advocacy more generally.
  • Statement to Illinois College Course Materials and Equitable Access Collaborative Study Act and Task Force
    • Dan will be emailing it to shana.rogers@illinois.gov?
    • Email will link to committee website.

    • Kim declines this year.
    • Message will be sent out regarding Tineka’s nomination and other potential nominations.
    • Dan Matthews stated that he is interested and willing to be continue as a co-chair if that is of interest to Tineka.
