Decisions:

  • Minutes of the January 2014 meeting were approved prior to the meeting.

Announcements:

  • The IACRL preconference has 12 people on wait list.
  • Cathy Salika is retiring, last day Feb 28, 2014. Her webinars on access reporting for Voyager have been recorded and will be available on the CARLI website soon.

Tasks assigned:

  • Elizabeth will type up our IACRL preconference breakout group discussion questions and will send to Committee for review. She will also inform our preconference presenters of the session format and provide them a list of the discussion questions.

  • IACRL pre-conference update – March 20, 2014
    • Pre-conference information is available at http://www.carli.illinois.edu/assessment-day-iacrl-preconference
    • Committee members attending: Beth, Frances W., Kirstin, Michelle, and Frances B. Aimee and Elizabeth (as presenters). Lorna and Debbie will also be attending.
    • We will have an hour for the break-out session, with the following schedule:
      • Frances W. will introduce the session and presenters (5 minutes)
      • Brief introduction of assessment topics by panelists (20 minutes)
        • Amanda Makula, Stefanie Bluemle and Margaret Rogal (Augustana)
        • Wendell Johnson (NIU)
        • Elizabeth Nicholson and Aimee Walker (North Central College)
      • Breakout tables (30 minutes)
        • Panelists will float between groups.
        • Committee members will serve as moderators and recorders in each of the breakout groups. Notes will be made available electronically after the preconference.
        • A list of discussion questions will be provided at each table.
          • What is good evidence for instructional assessment?
          • How do we use this evidence to assess our effectiveness in library instruction?
          • How do we use the evidence to measure student learning?
          • What tools are you using in your libraries to measure measure student learning?
          • From what you heard during the panel presentation, what is one tip/detail/approach that you could take back and use at your institution?
      • Recap (5 minutes)
      • One implementable idea from each table, reported by the Instruction Committee moderator
  • Changes to upcoming Committee meeting dates:
    • These changes, to accommodate scheduling conflicts, have been incorporated into the Meeting Dates and Deadlines section of the minutes below. Meeting times (10-11:30 a.m.) remain the same.
      • March 28 – cancelled
      • April 25 – moved to May 2
      • May 23 – moved to May 30
  • Instruction forum update
    • Lorna will contact Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) as potential site.
    • Proposed dates: June 17, 18 (preferred) or 19, 2014.
    • Call for proposals will go out April 7-11, after we learn whether IVCC will serve as site. Committee members will review proposals and discuss at May 2 meeting.
