E-Resources Working Group Meeting: January 14, 2013

Conference Call

Attendance: Chris Bulock (Chair), Jeanne Cross, John Blosser, Denise Green, Mary Konkel, Marisa Walstrum, Mary Burkee, Stephen McMinn, Joe Mullarkey

Announcements

  • Please respond to Tom Dorst’s emails about committee membership and possible appointments to ERWG.
  • Members discussed the sad news of Aaron Swartz’s suicide and the JSTOR downloading incident that led to federal charges against Swartz.

Updates

Academic Search Premier Title lists- Chris had sent a link to title lists from EBSCO Host detailing the lost Taylor & Francis, Bentham and other publisher serials. They are losing over 285 full text titles. EBSCO also provided a list on new full text titles being added to Academic Search Premier/Elite/Complete. ERWG members discussed the lists and the quality of titles lost or added. ERWG will do so again after more time to evaluate the titles. Some appeared to be open access titles.

New Proposals

SBRnet – SBRnet doesn’t do trials in usual sense. Was willing to allow screen shots or webinar demos. Some Illinois colleges subscribing in 2012 did not renew allegedly for economic reasons. Since the product had a number of issues with searchability and content as well as a lack of willingness to allow trial access, the ERWG will not pursue it further.

Alexander Street “in Video” offer update- Mary B reported 14 libraries have made their selections for the fully subsidized Alexander Street databases. CARLI staff will send a reminder email about selection deadline of Jan. 30 next week. A more extensive report will probably be available at our next meeting.
