Updates

SFX data project: Denise Green is working on an updated report based on the SFX data about CARLI library patrons looking for full text of journals but not finding it. She will send it out as soon as possible. Unfortunately, any CARLI libraries using Serial Solutions cannot contribute similar data since Serial Solutions doesn’t currently collect it.  Cindy and others are working on the survey data from CARLI member libraries web pages and are waiting on one ERWG member. She will send out an updated list of library databases at more than four libraries and also not currently available via CARLI.

CQ products and Science: Cindy reported she is still talking with SAGE (the publisher of CQ Researcher) about possible CARLI brokering. She may talk with them at ALA Midwinter. They offer a consortial discount with a somewhat complicated pricing schema and do not work via agents.

Similarly, discussions with the journal Science continue. Due to employee turnover, they have a new representative working with CARLI. They offer discounts that are contingent on new subscribers and they do offer via agents such as EBSCO.

Resource Interest Survey: Cindy and others will work on a survey of CARLI members to judge interest in products suggested by the web pages survey and the SFX data report. Cindy hopes to distribute by early Feb. Besides interest, other questions may ask about if a library gets the product via an agent or directly and what is their renewal cycle. All talked about titles for this survey including CQ Researcher, Science, Encyclopedia Britannica, Gale Virtual Reference Library and JAMA. Since Elsevier doesn’t work with consortia, their titles may not be included in such a survey.

Other Business

Electronic Books RFP- Six CARLI staff will meet with 5 eBooks vendors for 1 hour each at ALA Midwinter. They will use a shorten version of the questions generated at the eBooks discussion day. Cindy will share this question list with ERWG. Vendors include EBSCO, ProQuest EBL, YBP and Ingram.
