Discussion

The committee discussed project ideas for the year.

ER Management

  • in Alma Liz suggested how to keep track of things in Alma.
    • Megan asked Liz if it was institutional access or consortial offering? Liz said both - with a focus on things they maintain in perpetuity. Megan asked how do we use Alma as a one-stop shop? Exploring ways in Alma that are like CORAL - it was good at keeping track of ER things.

Licensing in Alma

  • Heather is trying to get license information into their system.

Resource Recommender and Tagging

  • Lisa said this may be a Primo VE thing, but they are looking at resource recommender and tags.
  • Somewhat related - Denise has been doing a lot of work in what users are searching but not getting full text for. What users search for and think those results may be helpful for ER staff to see.
  • Lisa said “JSTORE” has been a highly used search term tag that they have seen from their users.

Link Resolver Issues

  • Jennifer suggested working on the link resolver issue. Users get discouraged by Primo VE broken links and return to database list for searches. Denise asked if there are patterns in broken links. Jennifer said some of the OA offerings are where they are seeing issues, but a lot of one-offs.
  • Denise is interested in helping to support the link resolver issues and suggested enabling DLR (display logic rules) to help curtail these. Noted that many of the libraries are currently not using DLRs. CARLI could give out a “recipe book” for libraries to aid in setting up DLRs.

Denise asked what have your colleagues asked you about regarding ER.

OCLC and Alma out-of-sync

  • Liz said OCLC shows their electronic resources as available to request and doesn’t know why they are showing up this way. Liz talked to Ted and got Alma and OCLC talking, but it does not delete OCLC records. Denise will bring this to CARLI staff’s attention.
  • Megan said that they just completed a project where they turned everything off in OCLC for their e-resources.
  • Denise said this is especially true for ASP (Alexander Street Press) records because they began having no OCLC numbers and do not have a standard number as a match point. Denise asked Craig if their ILL staff notices getting requests for things that are not owned.
  • Craig said that OCLC and Alma were not talking and they have had similar issues.
    • Denise asked Megan if they turned off Data Sync. Megan said only print holdings are set up. They turned off all electronic collections. Now that licenses are in order, they can reassess and turn some electronic collections back on. They did this via WorldShare management.

Lending Entire eBook in ILL

  • Andrea asked about eBooks and ILL. Denise said you can send a chapter or small part, not the entire book.
  • Megan said at the Charleston Conference last year they talked about whole eBook lending. Megan mentioned Springer eBooks and JSTOR individual titles they purchase every year.
  • Jennifer noted there is no consistency within eBooks and ILL lending.

AI and E-Resources

Craig brought up AI (with ER perspective) exploring opportunities, changes, data analyses, how it is the theme of the moment, as well as how it is upending processes.

  • Heather mentioned ChatGPT.
  • Lisa signed up for a webinar from Choice
