Announcements

CARLI UPDATES

  • Jen noted that the CARLI Board has approved 8 new I-Share member institutions: Chicago History Museum, Chicago Theological Seminary, City Colleges of Chicago, College of Lake County, Elgin Community College, Illinois College of Optometry, Prairie State College, and Saint John's College of Nursing. By February 2023, CARLI will have a project plan in place that will indicate when the new members will join I-Share. Most will be transitioning to Alma from different integrated library systems. CARLI will provide I-Share and Alma training and hire graduate students from the I-School to assist.
  • Denise shared upcoming CARLI events, including “Re-examine: The One-Shot Library Instruction Class” (Dec 9, 2022, 1:30pm to 3:00pm) and the ongoing PDA E-Resources Learning Series (sessions are being recorded).
  • Denise noted that OER grant funds are still available.
  • Nicole noted that the CY23 E-Resources Selection System has closed and the FY24 Ebook Program will remain open through Dec 21. Information about the Ebook Program, including upcoming information sessions, has been distributed by email. The Ebook Program is member-funded. Members can make their contribution through the E-Resources Selection System. The system will display a suggested amount, but members may use the “ASK CARLI” button to request a different amount. Invoices will go out July 2023, but members may use the “ASK CARLI” button to request a different invoice date.

Decisions

  • Minutes of the October 2022 meeting corrected and approved.
  • ERM Committee will focus on three projects:
    • Alma Analytics for e-resources
    • Vendors and licenses in Alma
    • E-resources in Primo VE (e.g., Display Logic, Direct Linking)
  • ERM Committee will host a session on Alma Analytics for electronic resources management on Feb 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. that same day to touch base before the session. The registration form will include a field for registrants to input questions or topics they’d like addressed.

Discussion

  • Alma/Primo VE Nexis Uni Linking Level – Based on feedback from those who tested the Nexis Uni Article-Level Workaround Denise concluded the workaround is easy to implement and undo but doesn’t improve linking a huge amount. Following discussion, the ERM Committee made the following recommendations, which Denise will share with all I-Share libraries via the appropriate listservs:
    • It should be left up to each library to decide whether or not to deploy the workaround.
    • Add a public note at the collection level to advise users to search by article title. For example, Andrea noted that SIUC uses the following note: “Search by article title to locate a specific article. This platform doesn’t support article level linking.”
  • Committee Projects – The committee discussed project ideas and selected three projects to focus on this fiscal year:
    • Alma Analytics for e-resources – The committee began planning a session on generating reports using SUSHI harvested usage data to aid decision making. The session will likely focus on common scenarios and use specific examples (e.g., How to analyze Wiley analytics when it’s up for renewal). The committee may build canned e-resources reports and save them in the Shared Folder. Lisa noted that the Alma Overlap Analysis Tool may be relevant as well. Nicole noted that she is working on a survey to learn how CARLI libraries are using usage statistics. Jen noted that CARLI is working with an Alma Analytics consultant. So, if the committee runs into issues, the consultant may be able to assist.
    • Vendors and licenses in Alma – The committee discussed managing vendors and licensing in Alma to improve e-resources management.
    • E-resources in Primo VE – The committee discussed using Direct Linking, Display Logic, and Online Services Order to improve the user experience. The ERM Committee may partner with the Discovery Primo VE Committee on this project.

Tasks Assigned

  • Sarah Kurpiel did meeting minutes.
  • All ERM Committee members will attend the CARLI Office Hours on Dec 8. The topic will be troubleshooting e-resources.
  • A CARLI staff liaison will put the session Alma Analytics for electronic resources management on the CARLI calendar for Feb 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The session will be announced after the winter break.
  • Denise will draft an email containing the ERM Committee’s Nexis Uni linking level recommendations, run it by colleagues and the committee, and distribute it via the appropriate listservs.
