CARLI UPDATES

  • Denise showed us some of the upcoming events on the CARLI calendar, including events from other committees as well as the PDA E-resources troubleshooting
  • Nicole spoke about the open CARLI CY 2023 selections (until Nov. 11)
  • JSTOR has an offer of a one time deal for community colleges to have access to everything, and can pay over 3 years
  • Jen described the process of applying for I-Share membership. We should know about new members at the CARLI Annual meeting, which is still accepting registration. No new members since 2018, so this is exciting.

Discussion

  1. Review Troubleshooting Alma/Primo VE Links prepared by Denise
    1. Some discussion about whether to add another point to “First Steps” that addresses whether the patron is using the library link or just went to the vendor’s website.
    2. Discussion about who the audience is for this page. Will the librarian have the ability or opportunity to have the back and forth that the page implies?
      1. What is your library’s policy if you just get a link and a message that it didn’t work? Do you follow up with the article? Do you ever get responses back to questions?
    3. Side discussion about Wiley KBART autoholdings set up and some of the issues that persist.
      1. This led to the idea of including autoholdings to the troubleshooting page.
    4. A big thank you to Denise for putting this together.
  2. Electronic Collection / Electronic Portfolio activation workflow
    1. Discussion of why this was suggested and how we want to use it.
    2. Question about putting together a list of recommended or common collections. With a follow up idea that we could do that for CARLI selections.
    3. Discussion of not using the CZ collection/records because they are usually awful. And what the consequences of not linking them can be.
      1. CZ is updated with link changes or other portfolio changes.
      2. How does the hybrid approach add to the title count?
      3. Periodical vs monograph: how does that affect decisions.
      4. Discussion about what can and should be shared to the NZ instead of staying in the IZ.
        1. CARLI is currently in discussions with Ex Libris about how to improve CZ records, how those are managed, what happens if improvements are lost in an update.
        2. ELUNA has a group that is meant to improve CZ metadata Content Working Group
